I don't even know what to call this sound so it's hard to search for info, but I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on what the basic building blocks of this puppy might be.

It comes in during the intro at about 1:30 under the other synth that's building up. I can't for the life of me even think on where to start on this one. It sounds so beautiful though! Any tips would be much obliged.

at 1:30? no. It's a very light sort of airy sound.

i think you could get a similar sound with 2 detuned saw waves, alot of reverb, a touch of chorus and flange. and it sounds like its going through a bandpass filter thats opening up. Maybe add a little bit of white noise on that too

Haven't got volume at work so can't hear the synth you are talking about, but I did just want to big up Black Sun Empire for being utterly sick.

Think I have their first vinyl release somewhere. Consistently one of the best DnB acts since God knows when, but don't seem to get the recognition that the Noisia's and Spor's of this world get.

Exactly. They really should get that recognition tho, I think BSE is alot better then Noisia or Spor.

as for that synth sound, I think the advice that was posted earlier can get you close.

Not really into DnB, but had this on repeat for a good hour now

BSE is my favorite by far out of any producer. If you're not familiar with them, get their album "Lights and Wires." It's an artist album with Drum and Bass and Dubstep. Really beautiful and haunting shit, and it's still heavy. You can taste the artistry throughout the whole thing. BSE is what converted me into a DnB devotee. I love their approach to dubstep too. It's structured more like DnB, which makes it a lot more mixable.I can do huuuge 64 bar fades, and double drops easily with BSE tracks, they just... flow.

Thanks for the advice, I'll try it. I guess I really need to bone up on my lead sounds. Spend way too much time focused on bass.

To the unitiated, check this out for a Dubstep Track:

a little bit off topic, but do many producers resample lead sounds like this? If it plays such a big part in bass sounds, i dont see why the same process couldnt be applied to other asepcts of the tract to get really interesting sounds.. hmmm

Couldn't let this thread pass without saying I really don't care for BSE. Used to be massively into Noisia and Spor back around '08 times but BSE always just seemed like cheap wannabes. There's no soul in their music, it's just production and it bores me. Noisia and Spor might be very production heavy but at least they have *some* musical feeling there as well. To each their own though I guess.

umm the synth sounds almost like a super saw? maybe a little detuned and is highpassed with some reverb being automated and the reverb should be before the highpass filter and the volume is automated or are you talking about that almost white noise sound?

Lol, yeah, I've heard a LOT of their stuff over the years and don't think I've liked a single song :\ sorry dude, for me personally it just can't compare to stuff like this;

vice versa on that one for me mate. Noisia/Spor dont bore me, but I hear alot less soul in it then BSE has, but yeah, like you said, to each thier own

A lot of their older stuff isn't my cup of tea, but I'm in absolute love with Lights and Wires LP. I'm a big Noisia and Spor fan as well though

i'm sure there are millions of presets that sound a lot like that in FL.. a few in Albino as well.

pretty sure it's already been said by mike145 though.
