There are alot of semantics to this. Most of them revolve around the fact this is Electronic music, and therefore everything is aliased regardless of if its cut or digital.

Therefore Im not gonna explain this from an electronic musicians point of view, Im gonna explain it from my view as a drummer!

Okay, say I record myself playing a little session, through a mic, out to tape. This is going to be un-aliased, and a preservation of the actual sound waves (sure, hardware colors, but)... Now, I send this tape through a converter and out to my PC, and send the reel itsself straight to an m.e. to be cut. In theory, the one which hasnt been put to a computer will be a higher quality.

Aliasing means its technically impossible to draw a true curve digitally. You have to draw 9 bajillion little straight lines that all intersect at very slight angles and come together to make a curve... ever play linerider?

But the thing is, with EDM, that going to happen REGARDLESS, soooo... semantics insue.

Bear this in mind though, when digital is cut to vinyl, they use 16bit waves, and when DJs play digital out, they use 320k mp3s... I dont think anyone will debate semantics about wav vs. mp3, thats hard to argue.

Only thing I have experienced is that you have to turn the gain knob a bit when mixing from vinyl to digital... vinyl is a little louder.

I've also heard things about how music with a low resolution can fatigue your ears/brain (because it's filling in the blanks) and music with very high resolution (the highest possible being 100% analog signal path) sounds better to the brain.

I've got my analog synth routed through my computer to my DAW, and digital recording DOES still capture that Analog warmth, but I suspect it would sound a tiny bit 'better' if I had my synth plugged straight in to an amp, with no digital in the signal path. I can't say until I've tried.

vinyl is pure sound waves, digital is 44,100 samples a second (assuming we're talking cd's/mp3's and not dvd audios which pretty much no one has), so while digital has better frequency response (gets higher and lower than vinyl can handle) there are "missing bits" of audio information.

so while it's 6 of one half a dozen of the other (filling in the gaps between bits vs. the high and low end rolloff with vinyl) people usually say that vinyl sounds warmer and more musical whereas digital sounds more precise and present.

but for me, a lifelong vinyl enthusiest who just sold all his vinyl 2 weeks ago, it comes down to in 2011 i personally do not listen to vinyl ever because mp3's are just too convinient, so i stopped kidding myself and sold it all and now only worry about my mp3 repository.

The best way is to experience it..all my friends were asking me that question so I played Loefah's remix of Candyfloss on my computer 320 mp3 version,and then the same song through the same speakers but with my vinyl copy playing on my turntables and there's just no comparison for me..

... now if that's THAT question id be far more concerned by things such as budget, convenience and rarity of certain tracks then about the sonic qualities of vinyl...

dunno if u plan on playing in clubs... but round where i live.. a very few systems turn out to be as good as the mastering of ur favourite tracks :S

i'm a vinyl guy thru and thru and like the other dude said, most digital djs rely on mp3s, so in terms of sound quality there's no comparison. But when u look at things like convenience then digital will win every time, it's a shame because i can't stand cd decks and i'm gonna invest in traktor or serato (so i can still use my 1210s) but even then, i don't know how viable it will be to turn up at a rave and unpack all my stuff and plug the laptop into the mixer, unless ur the first guy on.

im buying 12"s every now and then mostly,because if i buy a piece of music i enjoy, i want to be able to hold it in my hands, not just have it as a datafile on some stupid computer..oneday ill get some turntables and i want to learn how to mix from the very basics. also i like the sound much more than cd/mp3
