Soundcloud

hey so i started this and i know its a bit of a mess mix-wise.
i'm using fruity loops and an mbox 2 as my soundcard.

i know i could do alot more to improve the mix but i have a question and i'm not really sure if it makes sense.

lets say i mastered this to the best of my ability, it would still sound kind of low resolution (does that term make sense?)
for some reason i can never get any of my mixes to have that certain clarity that you get when you listen to a well made track...

is it because i suck at mastering or is the mbox 2 maybe not the best sounding soundcard? or maybe its FL..
am i making sense?

anyway thanks.

i'm not going to be much help because i am having some of those same problems with this track

But i can tell you it's probably not fruity loops, mainly because i have the same problems and i'm using logic, as far as the soundcard, i guess it could be but it is actually probably more to do with the fact that neither of us is a sound engineer, and thus will never be able to reproduce what a professional can do with out lots and lots of practice and knowledge...

nice track op, the mixdown is not so bad imo

here's your problem: you're confusing mixing and mastering, your job is to make a decent mixdown, you shouldn't bother about mastering, leave that to mastering engineer and more importantly leave that for the day your tunes are good enough to be mastered/you get in touch with a label

also, if you're doing everything "in the box" meaning you do everything in your DAW and do not use any external input, i doubt your soundcard is the problem

so in short, learn how to make a good mixdown, read this if you havent > http://dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=74832

hope this helps
