Any recommendations? I'm on about the desktop, foam(?) ones...

Buy some foam at a craft store and cut them yourself. I really don't think they are made out of anything special.

I'd say they probably are tho'... I'm building a proper studio set up and not a make and do set off of a TV show

Hehe. Right on--I'm coming from a hobby perspective, so I'm always looking for DIY alternatives. Maybe I'm thinking of the wrong thing here, but are you talking about the foam bases for monitors that reduce vibration or the wall mount foam to control room acoustics?

To reduce the vibration from the speakers. Acoustic blocks are next on the list

Ok. Gotcha...not trying to be an ass...but I really think those things are just foam. I mean it'd have to be the right density to absorb the vibrations, but other than that I doubt they are some NASA space foam or anything. I've looked at a bunch of them in person and out of the box and just couldn't bring myself to spend the money asked for them. I never bought any (though I need them) because of the price. I'll have to try the DIY version and report back.

However, if I was trying to build a professional looking studio I would want to have professional looking equipment too. First impressions and all.

Oh ya, I know they are probably just foam but with the way things are going I can't really afford to get on the DIY tip. As you say, first impressions and all that...

actually theres a thick metal plate on top and a neopren cover. theyre expensive but made a huge difference for me.

Not doubting the efficacy of these things, but all those testimonials seem to focus on how good mixes sound through them, like "the bass was punchier". I don't want a monitoring product that makes the bass sound punchier, I want a monitoring product that more accurately reveals the frequencies and dynamics that are present in my audio.

Heavy hitters there in the testimonials, though.

Its not meant like that the bass is just louder, its more like the bass is punchier without(!) being louder. Its just more defined, like a higher resolution on a display. hope i make some sense

I just want the desk to stop vibrating. Isolate the speakers from it... No room for stands really.

i think the promacoustic things give you exactly what you want. if you have the oppertunity just check em out and decide for yourself
