just wondering how you guys got your default reason 5 setup looks? iv only been producing for a about 4-5 months so i dont have a good setup yet. right now really i just have a combi with a kong routed to 2 redrums, and some combis for basses. if you guys wouldn't mind id like to take a look at your defaults, if you wouldn't mind uploading the rns and explaining a bit. that way i can hopefully take some ideas and speed up my workflow.

This is what I use for drums in reason. Not much to explain I don't think, ignore the kick/snare on/off etc.

It's incredibly quick to make some drums and have them semi-mixed.
Just that and a main mixer with pretty much the same aux sends on it.

looks good. what do you use the distortion for? any chance i could get an rns to take a closer look?

oh i absolutely love it. kong is a godsend and just the overall look is much better. the big meter is more accurate and octorex is sick, although i have not used it that much yet. for me kong was more than worth it, it really is so sickk.
but i would like to develop a nice default rack so i can save time on setting things up and sorting things out. i find that spending so much time sorting things out i lose a little bit of my inspiration when im in the moment.

I use Reason 4, still. Gonna upgrade when I get the pennies....
My default rack is a pair of ReDrums (an 808 and an acoustic kit) and a Subtractor, with 1 16th beat matrix sequencer. set to be a boring bass sound.
I had a phase of using ReBirth too, but since I figured my way round Subtractor I don't see much point!
I love Thor, still not used everything, still got a stupid number of things to experiment with in it (For my sins, I normally use Virtual analogue and noise Oscs and that's it..._

pretty much an empty rack, just a mastering suite (always start with this bypassed) and the 14 channel mixer. im also really digging the idea of the delay and unison as aux sends on the drums, thanks for that therapist

I'm still on reason 4, default rack is a mini line mixer with a 14 track mixer going into it. I don't like keeping synths / samplers on the default rack because it tends to impose on the tune I'm making and distract me.. I do have a few combis with some basic drum routing and a few synths which helps me get ideas down quickly if I need but generally I work fast enough to just work on my default rack.

my default rack is a drum setup very similar to therapists and a basic sub bass patch

he has each redrum channel routed to its own mixer channel, you can see where the fx are routed (on the aux send's) and I imagine he will have the EQ and compressor as an insert between the master output of the mixer and the combi input.

Thanks. He actually sent me the rns. I'm going to have a look at it when I get home from work. When I get home I'm gonna try and rig up the same setup but with Kong routed to 2 redrums, and then everything else he has.

I'd kill myself if i'd need to route everything over and over, but whatever works for you
I've have quite a big template, like 30+ mixer channels

. I'm using R5 and Record and my template is like this:
- Kong triggered by Redrum. Only the first 8 pads (2 kicks, 2 snares & 4 hats), so each has it's own output. Each output goes to it's own mixer channel. Kick, snare & hats have all their own bus, these 3 bussen are then routed to a drum bus. I've also have preloaded some random drum sounds into the Kong. If I have groove going then I switch the samples for ones I want. This way I can start writing the drums right away, without spending time looking for the right sounds.
- 4 empty audio tracks, to quickly load audio. Thinking of increasing this to 8 and have a few of those bussed to the drum busses, ready to chop up some breaks and bounced drumloops
- Sub bass channel, a combinator with Thor with a sine, routed to a mixer channel
- Another combinator, a granulizer type thing, somewhat like a downgraded malstrom but i can load up my own samples. It has 2 osc, each routed to a mixer channel for full control.
- Another single osc granular thing, with crazy mods for some crazy fx
- 2 frequency split busses. One audio as input and the other as mixer channel input, so I can route any device output to it with out bouncing.
Thats prettu much it. I'm still kinda optimizing it and adding new interesting and handy stuff

As long as the main mixer out is split into the sampling input, starting devices dont bother me.
But...
Tempo - 140
8 bars looped
Blocks off
Init patch on new devices
and that bloody click level reduced a bit.

I'd like to get this too. I use a redrum unit with each channel routed to his own mixer track.

thanks man. sounds interesting. and ya idk why people wouldnt build a nice default template to increase workflow

beats me
