Dubstep - Its for everyone...

Last night my roomates and I got offered a weekly gig. The promoter said play whatever you want, just make sure theres a little hip hop in there cause thats what their used to. After playing hip hop for a few, we worked it into some dubstep early on in the night. So, Im up, dropping 'Crunk'd up' and my roomate is at the bar next to two older bar regulars - definately not the typical Benga fans - and he notices that they're talking about the music. Expecting the worst, but curious to what they're saying about it he turns and asks what they think of the music. "Its wonderful! We were just talking about how much were enjoying it, its really nice to hear some instrumental music, and this easy to dance to and we like it alot, whats it called?..." and so forth. Nothing but good vibes on the dubstep from a bar full of people expecting rock and hip hop all night. And the virus spreads some more...

That's a good point. It's not a big deal if the heads are liking what you do. At Dub War 5 in NY, the fine ass female bartenders were dancing behind the bar and asking every one of us that came to refill(LOTS that night) what the hell it was they were hearing.

Kids on pills showed up eXXXXXXXpecting a regular club night... that had to have been a real shocker. Bet THEY had fun

If they weren't too busy blowing up the underground, killing Princess Diana and sending shite bands to the US, I might be afraid.

I've never heard of the shite bands to the US conspiracy theory - if someone could assassinate Razorlight that'd probably be quite cool :D

The Lady Diana things quite silly recently - she was and always will be a fairly pointless imprint for twee martyrdom

The fashion industry still hasn't got over the fact that one of their more discrete cocaine using, clothesracks is dead.

Been doing a weekly happy hour for like the last year.
Been Playing Reggae dub to donwtempo to funk and soul to hiphop to dubstep for 3 hours. Most everytime people come up and ask "what is this where can i hear more?" then I hand them a GRIME CITY flyer. All sorts of people like the sound when they hear it. If it has any elements they might be into to it catches thier ears.

I have a electronic/hiphop/downtempo radio show in Montreal, and my addiction to dubstep has come out predominently over the waves, and people have been calling in alot when I drop the dubstep.
(i remember this dude FREAKING out when I played Honour Kill by mr.Envoy. "what the hell is this!? it's amazing!" said he. great feeling)

things are also picking up in the city as people are realizing that it's a great opener for the night.
I recently opened an electro night with a bag full of heavy dubs, and was amazed at the crowd reaction.

the virus spreads.

Friend of mine was to play guitar on their upcoming tour, so that the lead singer could focus on fuckin about on stage. They showed up late at rehearsal, was arrogant and just didnt wanna rehearse the tunes. When they had stage rehearsal, in a huge warehouse, with 50 people preparing all sorts of shit for them, all they played was... 2 Riffs on the bass (bass player apparantly saying "there!" after the riffs+ 30 seconds of drums. He left, called his manager and got 75% of the salary for the whole period. Complete arses.

Anyway. I'm too old to spread the word about new genres. Im into dubstep like no other genre, ever. But I can't be arsed convincing people who would be happier listening to top fitty. And genre tourists? Fuck them, they dont know what it was like.

STOP RIGHT THERE!

If you're looking for a way to guarantee that future generations are subjected to that tripe, assassination would be the way to go. It might provide some short-lived personal satisfaction ... but Razorlight would have the last laugh.

This is why it has to look like a particularly embarassing suicide, Hutchence style

Could just leave it til their difficult third album, the publics so fickle these days :D
