post this in the production forum m8

i've run into the same problem last week when trying to finish a song for the battle royale. whenever i was outside i was like "woah man i gotta go to my laptop and work on it a little more" but as soon as i sat in front of my pc i started getting more and more pissed by the minute. mostly it's minor annoyances like WRITING MIDI TRACKS WITH MY MOUSE AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH
but also the feeling you get when you listen to your tune, listen to another tune by someone else and the difference in mixdown quality jumps in your face screaming HA-HA!
so the two big problems are: workflow and the goals i set myself.
for the latter, the solution is: fuck drum n bass, fuck (good) dubstep. that shit is on a level production-wise that i won't reach in the next years realistically. also it really isn't giving me inspiration the way it used to years ago, at the moment i feel like both genres are hopelessly oversaturated, with dnb being a tad better off. i'll need lots of practice and patience before attaining the quality standard of what's being released nowadays, but if i keep churning out tracks that are mediocre at best compared to standard tracks in the genre it's more demotivating than anything. so yeah fuck that, i'll just do some other shit (in my case i'm really digging funky synth-heavy stuff at hiphop tempos, and 808-style whateveryoucallit like boddika n stuff).
as for workflow, it's pretty easy. i need more direct control over the sounds, because working with a mouse and keyboard is not good for my blood pressure levels. so: midicontrollers. i'll start with a drumpad, a decent midikeyboard and an actual synth i can use without my computer (the people at the production forum suggested the microkorg which i really like so far).
hands-on all the way! once i have that i can just do tracks for the fun of it like back when i started producing. i mean honestly, i love getting lost in the rocket science of basslines and such but making music is supposed to be fun, if it isn't then you're doing something wrong.
hope this rant helps you
