CDex will do this for you, it's also a wicked program for ripping CDs/.wavs to mp3.
Why you'd want to convert mp3s to .wavs is beyond me tho.
free to download from here:

Positive. Just done one now. It converts all its known formats into each other, the 'convert selection to' menu item under the 'advanced' tab at the top is dependent on iTunes' preferences' 'import format'. Try setting that to wav and then look at 'convert selection to'.
Hope that makes sense?

mp3 ==> .wav, or lossless (sp).
i think if it's mp3 the loss has already occurred

it does, and I know which settings box you're referring to. To be honest, I didn't notice .wav but then I wasn't looking for it...
Also:

I believe you're right - in mp3 format, a track is already compressed so some quality would have already been lost; surely sticking it from mp3 to wav is just gonna cause further loss of quality?

Ahh no, unless the converter is some really shitty quality. The 'loss' is all about the frequencies thrown away when converted to the MP3 in the first place. That's how mp3 compresses the data - throws away data that the encoder determines you won't hear (hence encoding takes more processor power than decoding).
Converting this back into WAV format will take your lossy-compression 16Mb MP3 and expand that back quite accurately into an totally uncompressed full-bandwidth 50Mb WAV file. However the WAV file will faithfully contain the 'distortion' introduced by the MP3 encoding. I.e. the missing frequencies will still be missing.
Why would you do this? Maybe some software or hardware you've got doesn't like MP3 and has to have WAV format. For example, Ableton Live back at version 3.0 (later versions support MP3), or most hardware samplers.
