I've only recently given dubstep a chance, and have almost no experience with electronic music outside of some drum and bass. I do like reggae, but it turns out that the music I'm listening to may fit somewhere else other than dubstep, maybe house music? I don't know where the genre boundaries are, I just listen to whatever sounds good. I'm definitely into the more accessible and popular DJs, mostly Skrillex and Deadmau5, and can't seem to get into "real" dubstep". I'm particularly into the latest Deadmau5 songs with SOFI, which don't really sound like dubstep to me (well, maybe "One Trick Pony" since it's got the rhythm and some reverb, but I really don't know). I like the faster beats a bit more, but still heavy bass, and it's easier for me to get into music with vocals or melody (like Skrillex). I've tried to get into something called happy hardcore but it was too ridiculously fast for me, and didn't have enough groove. So, maybe house or "fidget" is what I'm looking for? I tried to surf around on YouTube and didn't really get anything that roped me in, but maybe someone here has an idea of what I'm looking for and can point me in the right direction. I did some searching on here too, but I'm really not sure what to type in that will find my answers. I'll be lurkin' around for some new music though. I searched around for "dubstep with vocals" and mostly got pop remixes and such, which isn't my thing either.

All I can really say is that unless you're just an ubertroll, you have terrible taste in music and this is not where you're gonna find what you're looking for.

you shouldn't 'try' and get into a genre of music man. if you don't like it. don't listen to it. If you like deadmau5 and don't like as you call it 'real dubstep', then listen to deadmau5. Don't worry about being cool or fitting in with music trends. Your only gonna lie to yourself man.

theres slower hardcore and breaks but there not like dubstep

nothing wrong with wanting to understand something that you dont really understand to begin with. but the forum has a sticky thread full of tunes for beginning listeners, you shuold try that. as far as up beat and faster pace music house is a great start. and you mentioned drum and bass so try so breakbeat music (ex. the crystal method, amon tobin)

I read through there, and it's mostly actual dubstep. I tried to use that "most frequently asked questions" thread but the links there don't even work. Deadmau5 and Skrillex get passed off as dubstep (most genres of music are perverted by pop culture), but don't sound like what I know of the genre. I'm trying to find out what direction of music they fit into, so I can look around for more like that. I like Deadmau5 and will keep listening to him. I'm not really looking for dubstep, but what the heck else am I supposed to call it? I can't really look until I know. I've been browsing around YouTube and Audioscrobbler and all that, but there doesn't seem to be much that does the trick for me. What kind of music is Deadmau5 and Skrillex?

strange situation. one of the main reasons dubstep/postdubstep/futuregarage/whateverelse gets big worldwide is, it fits perfectly into 'international party tempo bracket..125-145bpm? anywhere you go in the world, when a party is getting buck wild, regardless of genre, usually, it will be in this bracket. vodka drenched polka,carnival hype soca, sleazoid unplanned pregnancy thrash metal, israeli trance, italio neo disco, baltimore, chi juke, hyphy jerk or whatever the fuck.
maybe now it gets to more of a situation like wine, taste specific to the region, sheeit, people just reppin they hood right?

if you're old enough to use the web but dont have any clue about music outside genres of DnB and Raggae then i think you should either give up looking or, more productively, browse through the millions of threads here or lock into rinse
or buy various compilation CDs and work out what you like from those

lolwut dont give up looking, find out what label your favourite artists are on, then go through all the other artists that are on said label.

also, the youtube 'similar' sidebar can be quite useful.

Not into the new deadmau5 shit but what i have been listening to, to fill the gap that dubstep used to fill is

I'm NOT asking what to listen to. I'm asking what is this stuff I'm already listening to called? It's popularized as dubstep, but I know enough to realize it's not dubstep at all. I don't listen to electronic music whatsoever until recently.

Yeah, I tried that but it leads to all sorts of stuf. I've been looking around on the internet for about awhile when I'm able, before I came here. I'll try to find out their labels though, I didn't think of that.

deadmau5 is not popularized as dubstep, sounds like your lookin for house/electro. and skrillex does both dubstep tunes, house-y tunes, and i think i heard a dnb by him.
