RECORD SHOPS

LONDON

SOUTHEAST

Music and Video Exchange
23 Greenwich Church Street, Greenwich, London SE10 9BJ

Selection is quite small, i'd say around 50-80 vinyl at any time for dubstep.

The atmosphere of the shop can be quite stale at times, its a multi-genre shop which caters of pretty much every genre which deserves its own section..

Ive found stupidly rare vinyl in there (which goes for 30+ on discogs) for under 5 pound and some under a tenner, condition of the vinyl is always great and the bargin basement downstairs sells ANY 12" single for 25p and any LP for 1pound, can't complain with that can ya? Stocks LOADS of garage downstairs too! a must-go to if you're a general vinyl junkie, they're also a chain with their headquaters in Nottinghill gate - though I haven't been there.

CENTRAL

BM SOHO
25 D'Arblay Street London W1F 8EJ

Selection ; depending on how well known you're around the shop its been known for people to a look-in on stuff which stays in the back (like older stuff) but the selection can be great for new releases and always has a healthy amount of stock so they'll let you buy two (its been known for record shops to not sell one person two copies of the same release).

Atmosphere ; Depends whos working downstairs (Where the dubstep is sold) on the day. Sometimes you go down and hear jump up dnb for 20 minutes while you browse, not the one!

LEICESTER (big up Dezbeatz92 for the info)

CENTRAL

ROCKABOOM
CD's and Vinyl both new and second.
4 St Martins Square Leicester LE1 5DF.
Opening Times. Mon - Sat: 9:30 - 5:30. Tel: 0116 253 8293.

Dubstep selection is fairly small yet most likely the biggest in Leicester that doesn’t consist of mainly mid-range dubstep, the store on the whole has a wide variety and like stated above has a good second hand collection. The store on the whole stocks a wide variety of vinyls and has a good selection of dub, DnB and hip hop as well as all the rest.

The Store is very ‘snug’ and is bright inside and always has easy listening music blaring away, the owner is easy to talk too and knows his music, if you give him your email he will update you on his stock that applies to you if you obviously let him know what your into.

DNA RECORDS AND CLOTHING
21 East Bond Street, City Centre, Leicester, LE1 4SX.
Opening Times Mon – Sat 9:00 – 5:30. Tel: 0116 283 6994

This is a 8 week old store to the date 04/04/2011 so it is finding its feet to my understanding but this record store is dedicated to the genres Dubstep/Drumstep/Drum and Bass/Jungle and other forms of electronic music. It stocks new and pre-owned vinyls and also sells CD’s. The owner, who infact is a enthusiast to the music scene having ran a successful (still occurring) DnB night called Genetic, cares highly about his customers and also about the music. The owner tells me he has contracts with the top 4 distributers of dubstep, for DnB I didn’t enquire but he also mentioned he welcomes any label/Artist/Track suggestions and is really helpful, if he see’s your face enough he will infact especially order for you to collect in case you cannot receive a delivery from online suppliers or other special cases.

(In my personal opinion DNA will conquer Rockaboom very shortly so keep your eyes on this place midland heads!)

i would love to share some east coast shops, but nearest record store to me is an hour away in DC. Easiest thing is online stores. All i shop at is Beatport but honestly, listening through the top 100 dubstep tracks can be painful work. I'd get probably 4-5 decent-great songs out of the whole search.

@Genevieve: thanks!

Anyway a small comparison:

Junodownload
mp3 @ 320kbps €1,95 WAV €2,45 from the netherlands, 1,30 / 1,99 from the congo
PROS a huge selection, fresh beats as well as classics.
CONS a tad expensive

Beatport
mp3 between €1,30 and €2,17
WAV between €2,65 and €3,65
PROS Great if you like Skrillex or teh R0bof4rt tun3zz
CONS Sucks if you don't

Chemical Records
MP3 1 GBP =~ 1,14 €
WAV 1,25 GBP =~ 1,43

BLEEP
MP3 €1,35
WAV €1,99

Boomkat.com
MP3 GBP 0,99 =~1,14
WAV ?
PROS a great selection and very good recommendations
CONS none, I love this shop

7Digital
MP3 €0,99
WAV n/a

PROS cheap, you can buy there through Spotify and get a discount if you order large amounts (1 track = 1,59€ but 100 tracks = 60€).

Additions and corrections allways welcome, of course

EDIT: It appeas Juno is a bit cheaper when buying from another country :dunce: so from now on I am officially based in the Congo. MP3's 1,30 and WAV's 1,90

Tribe Records is the one to go to for dubstep (on call lane behind the corn exchange)

i prefer jumbo (top floor of the merrion centre) though for general browsing as its got a really good atmosphere and my friends auntie works there, gives me freebies and sometimes theres bands or people playing there

problem is theyre both in towwn and a bugger to get to and i also dont have any decks so i usually just buy my music on juno

cheers hutyluty, iv never been in tribe but iv been wanting to have a browse for a while tbh, and i didnt know about jumbo. The only place id heard of was one where you had to go in and ask for Ali to get dubstep or something

i use digital tunes a lot.

Digital tunes
http://www.digital-tunes.net
I pay in euros and pricing is usually 1,50 for a new release and 1,00 for older tracks.
Pros: Good pricing, there's no extra fee for flacs or wavs, good selection of music, simple interface, lot of payment options
Cons: A little limited choice compared to Juno or Beatport. I don't know for how long you can download your purchases in other stores, but i think it's five days since purchase here.

I'm happy with it

edit: and from my limited experience, customer service's good too.

lol makes it sounds like a porno shop or something. asking for the hard stuff..
jumbos st johns centre not merrion centre btw lol

I'll fill the thing in properly aswell

Tribe Records (Leeds)
13 Crown Court LS2 7DG (near the corn exchange or the club Wire
Really good for Dubstep/dance music in general, last time i went there were loads of white labels and stuff everywhere too, not too great on newer releases tho from my (limited) experience
Nice and small, seems to be staffed by people in the know but if you're a new customer it seems a bit foreboding going in there

Jumbo Records
5-6 St Johns Centre LS2 8LQ
Dubstep selection is small, well i presume its there but i dont go shopping for dubstep here
Large and spacious, really great atmosphere, got massive sections where you can discover loads of new artists, while listening to some great music on the PA. Sometimes bands play there aswell which can be pretty cool

You can get tickets to most events in leeds from these two or from crash records which is on Eastgate.
