I like how when something like this happens the American media + people are quick to point out that this kind of shit isn't representative of the US military as a whole, but when Islamic fundamentalists do some fucked up shit clearly all Muslims are potential terrorists.

I...can't help but feel a little spite towards my parents for assuming that living in a country that gets up to shit like this is somehow better than poverty. I realize that's probably on some spoiled brat shit, but fuck. I didn't consciously make any kind of decision to be part of the Western world, and when I see shit like this I wanna give up on music and go back to livin' in da motherland.

I hate knowing that I'm technically a part of all this.

What disgusts me most about this kind of shit is the blatant double standards that America adopts when rationalizing this kind of shit. They always try to rationalize it with some bullshit about how not everyone in the military is like that, and then try to humanize the perpetrators of such atrocities by citing bullshit like combat stress.

...and honestly, this isn't even like the most fucked up shit I've read about.

The defense in that trial essentially tried to say that rape and murder are ok considering these pricks were stressed out.

But they're the good guys......

Those soldiers straight up planned and carried out a gang rape and then killed both the family of and the victim herself.

This is something that is very relevant to me, and an issue that people either don't like to talk about, or rationalize by bringing up how shit isn't "black and white".

It's PARTICULARLY relevant to me living in a society where I'm lumped in with Muslims because of the color of my skin, and where the money that I and my family make is taxed in order to facilitate shit like this.

...but...really, all that is irrelevant, if firky or 64hz would if like to explain how the Mahmudiyah killings, specifically, could be seen in some other way, I'm all ears.

Don't really know anything about the Mahmudiyah killings but it's sadly to be expected when your country goes to war (if you agree with it or not). Like I said, they'll always be arguments over who the real protagonist is. That's politics, the world, and the fucked up human condition.

Always amuses me in a gallows way that humans know that prevention is better than cure. But when it comes to shell shock and PTSD caused by warfare, we seem to be incapable of being interested in prevention.
