in USD
Beer: $7-10 for a 6er
Smokes: $5.35
Gas: about $3 / gallon
A Local Bar Cover Charge: $3-$7
Record: $10-$11 (+ship)
A Movie: $8
what do the same items cost in GBP's?
Just curious to see how the exchange rate of 2 to 1 stacks up in action. Feel free to add items as you see fit.

And a sixer really depends on what kind of beer, and whether you mean bottles or cans etc. By record do you mean 12"?

Bottles of Newcastle for example..
and a 10" or 12" .. its about the same. maybe the content/tracks will increase the price a bit.. but you should count on about $10-$11 per record (there are exceptions, but you get what im saying).

Well you can't get newcy brown in 6ers as far as I know. Would cost you in excess of $12 to get six bottles from my local offlicence. I was wondering if you were meaning a record as in an album. 12" will usually cost $12-16 in my experience.

Damn Jim! Thats a grip for a 12"!
Oh and I can get sixers of Newky's in bottles and cans out here in LA for $5-9...
The only thing out here that costs more than in Penn is movies and cover charges for clubs....
Movies are $11-$15 and Clubs are from $5-$20

Stupid idea anyway, no offence but you cant really compare things like this so easily.
firstly, you never just pay for somthing, you pay for the priviledge of buying it in a certain place. We also earn different amounts of money here, and UK is small, but still certain cities and towns are much more expensive than others, I can only imagian how this is in America.
anyway, its only 4.99 for a record, or at least it should always be.

Dont buy 4.99 6ers here in the states. Usually it is outdated beer.

Beer = £6 for six (fairly standard deal) ($12)
Smokes = £5 ($10) (most people I know smoke roll-ups though)
Gas = £4 ($8)
Local bar cover charge?? = most bars don't charge, clubs anything from free to £15 (or higher but I never pay over a tenner unless it's gonna be particularly good)
12"Record = £5-6 ($10-12)
Movie - haven't been in years but think it was about £6 ($12)
Mind you our minimum wage is (I think) about £5.50 p/hr, and yours is about the same in dollars from what I can remember (I may be wrong)
Looks like a really good place to go if I wanted to smoke and drink. How much is beer in bars there - a pint here's generally about £3 ($6) and bottles probably £2-3.50 (depending on venue)

A pint here is about 2.75 or 5.00 depending on your choice of beer.
Smokes down here run anywhere between 2.50 to 4.75.
Thats prices in texas.
Bottled beer can run in range from 1.75 to 10.00(also depending on what you drink and prices of thet bar/pub)

its different from state to state.
her ein washington is one of the highest at 7.93 usd per hour.
which is roughtly 4 pounds per hour.
as an example texas is 5.15 usd per hour.
its all based on the cost of living, generally the southern states are cheaper to live on average.

nyc.. manhattan more precisely, is ridiculous... i dropped about $30 on a four-pack of Guinness and a pack of smokes. about two and a half hours west (pennsylvania) the same purchase is about $15.. so it is hard to compare.. i agree. but this thread was made to try and see what the average difference in purchasing power is between the two currencies... being as i have never been to the other side of the pond, i find it interesting and even enticing if nothing more.

an off license is a liquor store. or normally a newsagents or mini supermarket and a liquor store combined.
