Choosing a producing style

I mean is it really that important to make music fitting in to a specific genre/subgenre? I don't want to produce tunes that are unseperable from eacother, like many of the famous ones do.. I want every tune I come up with to sound different and unique, not like them "big boys" who make them sound all the same.
Do I have to specify in a kind off sound to get big, or can I act a cameleont and make every kind of dubstep like I want?
Well of course there are big producers that can make any music they want and get away with it, but it's way too unusual..
Maybe this came out a little wrong but I hope that you all will get my point, so is there any help? Anyone who is sharing my ways of thinking?

Just make music, you'll fall into your own style if you do it for long enough.

listen to other music other than the genre you are attempting to fit in and you will draw ideas that will eventually lead to you carving out your own sound.

Thanks for trying to help but I think you both got my question wrong. What I'm wondering is DO I really have to obtain a specific style to get good and to get, I dunno.. big?

i wouldnt go around making music in order to 'get big' cause in reality its not gonna happen (at least anytime soon)
if you make good tunes people will follow.. dont matter on the style

i think your question is wrong and they got the answers right lol.

you dont have to follow any certain format or style to get big. all you have to do is make good music. and like the others said i dont think you should worry about getting big, especially right now. just make fucking music. unless someone is pointing a gun to your head telling you that you have to make a certain style of music, then make whatever fuckin style floats your little boat. there are no rules...

Getting closer! I don't make music to get big though, I just see it as a motivation to keep going when everything doesen't feel alright. It's like I'm telling myself "If you keep going maybe you will be like Skream or Benga".
Haha not that big of a chance but what to do but keep trying :)
What is important in this post is not that though, it's whether or not it's possible to make the music you want but not to obtain a certain style, well got my answer so thanks mate.. :6:

Haha yeah that's what's fucking my head right now, dunno I'm kinda tired n shit right now. I can't get why some awesome people making their own awesome music aren't bigger than some other, that's why.

Just make the music you want to hear, man. If your style (yes, you will develop a style) lines up with what people want to hear, then cool, but if not, it's what you love. In the end, that's what matters.

because its not always about what you do or what your capable. sadly a lot of the time in this society its about who ya know and how much money you have.

just make tunes that you like. if they deserve recognition they will get it sooner or later. depending on your connections and other things. but yeah i wouldnt worry about it. just enjoy making tunes however you want to.

also many times once producers are big they are asked to make certain music by labels or for commercials or vocalists or for whatever reason.

enjoy being the little guy, making tunes soley for fun.

And more importantly, your promotional skills. Take a closer look at those big guys who don't "deserve" to be as big as they are, they're all doing something more than chucking tracks up on soundcloud every now and again.

EDIT: Wtf why is this post bold :?

Who says you need a genre?
If you make good tunes, people will love it no matter what the style!

Don't make conscious choices about what style to produce, just let it flow naturally as your tune progress. You might start to think oh, I can't do such and such cos it HAS to fit in with x genre. You can never limit yourself, just flow. And before long your style will ring true anyway unless you're like me that jumps from one style and genre to a next like a blue ass fly.

It depends what you want to achieve mate. If you want you tune to rock the party at a certain point in the night then you need to fit in with the styles of that time. If you just want to enjoy creating music then dont worry, just do your thing

The key to me is knowing what you want to achieve? aphex twin, mark knight, or just have a few hours fun etc

I don't see it as good or bad, but yes genres are formulaic to a point, they must be to have commonality. If you want to add a fresh twist the key is understanding the boundaries of that style then subtly tweaking them for something fresh. I always remember a marloboro advert - something borrowed, something blue, something new... hope helps

I guess I wanted to know if I'd really need one to get better, you know?

Yes, of course. Everyone who is capable of making money on making music must be doing something right and ones promotional skills just have to have something to do with it!
And what do you mean with this post being bold? :)
