Easy all,

I'm not sure what music you listened to pre Dubstep and when you were young (this might not even apply to half of you...) but for me it was Garage but before that it was Jungle, proper oldskool Jungle, banging beats n some reggae thrown in! I got put off when it went into electro mode...

So I was very surprised to find that now there is a subgenre (damn them subgenres lol!) called Future Jungle and I just thought I'd start a post to see what people think of it?!

As an example below is the first tune I found. I'm loving it, what you lot think?

Is it the name of a subgenre or just an EP, though? I've never heard anyone say 'future jungle' and I'm normally fairly up to speed on that sort of neekery.

Anyway, can't listen while at work, will check it out later...

that's not future jungle,some of its barely jungle.jungle has been changing and morphing since its inception and is still doing it without fresh coming along and declaring future jungle as a phenomenon. if future jungle does really exist then groups like the dSC are future jungle

Could say the same for Future Garage imo...

Personally I dont know what your talking about, sounds like oldskool to me mate! Also I'm not saying Fresh has come and created it, just this is the first bit I've found...I'm not 100% sure its a genre or not, was kinda hoping someone on here might have more info as some of you cats are bang up on this!

I like the idea of it n why the funk not, it deffo isnt modern DnB sounding and if its happening with garage which to be fair isnt that fair away from past dark garage (imo most is exactly the same but again I guess a lot of users may not remember UKG back in the day!) then I'm all for it!

I'm not familiar with jungle at all, but that does sound a bit future-y with those effects. It's not as "hollow" as jungle though(no offence, as I said I'm not familiar with jungle)

Sounds great nonetheless! Gatekeeper sounds awesome

its getting out of hand with all these new sub genres im overwhelmed

its kinda lame people on here seem to think jungle stopped when dnb evolved in 96/97. people have been producing it ever since it started but it was kinda pushed aside by dnb and garage. this '140 jungle' thing is bullshit imo. most of it is just a dubstep tune but with an amen (people seem to think anything wit an amen is jungle), reece and 808 bass. The production standards in most of it are awful aswell with people just sticking in a standard amen loop and it just sounds weak. Jungle developed out of essentially boredem of the standard 4X4 and breakbeats of the early nineties. the beats were scattier and destandardised and a lot of people couldnt cope with it so if you take that as the original inspiration for 'jungle' then you have to follow that root - it leads to ragga jungle and breakcore. these are good sites for the side of it that nobody into dnb or dubstep seems to know about:

and artists such as these: paulie walnuts, twinhooker, nkogliaz, vocoda, ez sniper, krinjah, ragga scum, baby demo, scamp, Dr.um, sixteenarmed jack and even Bizzy B is still true to his roots after all these years!

Kinda..'ish. Breakcore was coined in 1992 the Bass Terror soundsystem and it was a reaction to the four-to-the-floors much like jungle was. Breakcore's older than dnb and some would argue older than jungle. It's a different spectrum of music, more related to speedcore, gabber and other hardcore.

As far as good modern jungle goes. I'm all about Life 4 Land.

Well, maybe we should stop hating... Dubstep used to be a sub-genre too. But yeah, i'm not that into this EP - But the skream 140-154 jungle(or what ever)-tunes are great. And if it's great music, fuck what you call it.

I'm not usually one to hate...

... but DJ Fresh is fucking jank. That is some of the worst DNB I've heard in years (and that is saying something, when you consider how bad the state of DNB has been over the last few years). He hasn't made a decent tune since he left Bad Company.

But yeah, Future Jungle i just the name of his EP, much as I hate him, he's not trying to create a new "sub-genre".

Have you even been listening to dnb in the last few years? it most definately hasnt been in a bad state! its been as thriving as ever, if not more!
