lets say I have a bassline and I wanted to send the upper frequencies of that bass to a return channel with a distortion unit,

thereby I could choose what frequencies to distort, AND leave the original signal intact.

i know how to apply FX to certain frequencies, and i know vsts like ohmicide have use frequency isolation distortion, but I want to do this without using it as an insert effect. obviously this is only one example.

the only solution i can think of is to duplicate the channel, filter out the frequencies i want to effect and send that the return channel. seems likea bit of ahassle really!

i'm sure there is probably an easy routing solution in ableton... anybody got any ideas?

Best way would be to create an audio channel with a multiband dynamics plug, route your bass to that channel, solo the frequency you want to affect and then you can send that wherever you want.

Something i've wanted from Ableton for a while is the ability to create return chains on instrument racks, then you could do what you're asking on one channel. They have return chains on drum racks so i don't see why you shouldn't have the same option on an instrument rack.

yeah, insert return add EQ to filter out low frequencies, then pile on effects - send your bass to that return (good for sending multiple instruments to the same effect chain). or like morrello said, create another audio track with it's input set up the way in the picture. after this, you can duplicate that audio channel and change the settings on the EQ - then group them all together and throw a compressor on the group bus (high knee, low ratio).

Send to 2 different, then send the 2 to a final. That's how I work it
