I've been working on trying to get the drums to cut more to no avail. Any suggestions? I've tried panning the other instruments out to see if widening the sound spectrum would help, but no luck.

How do I get my drums to cut more? :u:

Sidechain them to the other elements of the song... and google sidechaining if you don't know how to do it...

The sounds are sick. Love the synths you're using. The only thing was it seemed like the song structure was kind of weird. I couldn't really tell where I was in terms of the song. Also, it sounds like the wobbles might be a bit off in a couple places in the second section. But I feel like this track could be really awesome if there was a definite chorus and separate verses.

if you have a minute check mine out and leave some feedback :)

hell yeah.
makes me feel like im in the jungle.
maybe automate ur volume so its not so constantly ballsy
and the drop has more of an impact.
add copmression.
also look up a technique called new york compression.
add delay on the hats.
use dimension expander and unision on the wobble.
also if u dont notch filter or frequency carve for kicks and shit its a good technique to look up to.

good foundation. just work on mixing and impact.

i think the problem you're experiencing from ur drums is the fact that the whole thing is totally over-compressed. the tune sounds cool and there's some good production going on but you can tell just by looking at the waveform that there's no dynamic range, the drop has no impact because it doesn't feel any more powerful than the intro (which is actually louder) you've probably got a limiter on the master output that you've turned right up, ease off that and practise getting all your levels to sit better. I like the sounds you're using tho i can see it has potential.

Hey guys, thanks for all the advice. Yeah, the waveform should have been a huge tipoff that the limiter was crushing the sounds. I'll take all your words and try to get a better mix later this afternoon! Very excited.

Thanks again,
Seth

I got the hats to cut. Haven't decided if I even want to hear more snare.. not sure there's room for it.

After a while of mixing, it's hard to hear if it even sounds better than before.

On second thought, disregard that second version. I like this much better.

On THIRD thought, I decided it still wasn't finished.

BUT here it is, in all its... glory? I hope you guys enjoy. It's in your face pretty much the entire time... I think this cup of coffee may be the culprit there.

Anywho, take a listen! Thanks for all the advice!

Say you weren't using massive, would there be any way to create a dimension expander for a different synth?

i think the dimension expander is essentially just panning and flipping phase of one of the sides. swat it sounds like to me at least.

IO, to be honest, I'm not sure. I'm bet theres a free dim expander VST somewhere out there?

I decided to go back and revamp the entire tune after learning some more about mixing down. Got some cleaner sounds out of this one.... it's much, much different, and I like it.

Tell me what you think?

Thanks!
