It occured to me the other day, when i was at warrior dubz in Cardiff that the ole jonny smoking ban is just round the corner really! It felt pretty weird having to step outside for a smoke when virus syndicate are getting loose up on stage...

Basically, im kind of curious as to what people think will happen at dmz? (And other places of course) I mean, theyre pretty damn relaxed when it comes to smoking weed...but what do ya reckon will happen when smoking anythings banned? I hear theres some pretty tough fines for places that let people smoke...

To be fair, worst case scenario is to pop out side quickly for a joint and one of the best burgers money can buy

In fact, im pretty sure saturday will be the last smoking-legal dmz night!! Better make it worthwhile...

I was just gonna post up a similiar thread.I dont smoke but i think going to a dance will be weird without the familiar skunky aroma (im an ex weed smoker) Went to a few Jungle nights in New Zealand and the atmosphere felt strangely clinical in comparison to our foggy haze filled clubs.
Do you think places like the Leeds Windy centre will turn a blind eye to weed smoking? i cant see any self respecting Rasta putting his Spliff down.

As a promoter i'm not too sure how it will effect nights , the venue i use is already on it's last warning from the council (stayin open past lisence) . It will be wierd , people having to leave the venue for a smoke .
A couple of venues in Leicester ('de montford hall' for one) have already stopped smokin in the main rooms and allow it in the bar .. we went to a night there when they introduced it and the bar was rammed with people smokin (not green) and the main room was pretty much empty ... not a good look .
Either way i have just had a rubber 'kontakt' stamp made so people can go in and out as they please if they've had their hand stamped (hopin more in than out)

well surely there will be loop holes?

i understand no smoking in pubs and bars etc.. but dancefloors (ones with bars in different rooms) should be fine?

Ireland has a smoking ban. All pubs and clubs. Dancefloors are no exception. Unless they have no roof.

There was a dub and reggae night called Firehouse Skank, you didnt need to bring your own weed, you could just get fucked from the haze around you. But now its gone. It him them hard. But they had other problems too I think.

But overall I think its great. As a non-smoker I like coming home from a club or venue not stinking of cigarettes (instead, just beer and sweat ). Being in England recently reminded me how fuckin filthy it is.

Its created its own culture here. People go outside and smoke on the paths. Apparently its the best place these days to score.

You occasionally get this ludicrous situation happening where people get snared for drinking after hours because of the smoking ban. People are becoming so considerate for non-smokers, that they'll go outside after hours to have their cigarette (therefore inkeeping with the law), despite the fact they're drinking illegally! Some pub down the country got caught about a year ago because there were people standing around outside at 4am having a smoke.

Dont stress about it. It'll all work out.

And yeah, they do come down hard on people that break the ban. One pub owner in Galway made a point of defying the ban when he said his business was down. He was in the news, interviewed on TV, etc. Smokers applauded him, big furore. About a week later when things had died down, the inspectors quietly walked in and slapped a huge fine on him, and possibly ordered the place closed for a few days, which probably fucked him for more loss of revenue than the smoking ban ever did. I cant remember exactly now. But nobody breaks the ban now. Nobody cares about it any more, its all accepted. Here's a link

i think if its a members only club no1 has the rite 2 say u cant smoke thts wots happenin at my work we are all puttin a penny in a jar a yr for membership an it beats the smokin ban

I think this issue needs to be resolved, membership sounds like a good idea, make it a not-so Private Dubstep Club.

Pay a small fee for an id card and hopefully the venues won't be seen as public, thus voiding the smoking ban.

There must be a way around it, "On entrance you agree that your lungs belong to us for the time you spend here".

i just find it funny that BARS (serving alcohol, which kills people pretty well too) have smoking bans. they are doing it all over here in the US too, and the irony is just inescapable.

although the nice thing is, less smoke in the building means more lung power, which means longer marathon skankin' sessions.

the silver lining i suppose.

Yeh, I doubt that many people looking for club/bar work are going to turn down a job because of the smokey atmosphere, which would have been a standard anywhere in the past. Who knows?

it's not ironic, its peoples choice to buy drinks at the bar but you can't choose to not breathe in other peoples smoke...its been law in NZ for a while too and everyone had the same reaction, its going to bring business down rah rah but really all it means is that people go outside when they have a cigarette. but yeah you're right dublinstep, it does change the culture a bit too all these people hanging outside the clubs...you can hear people easier when you talk to them heh heh

if you're mashed enough, you wont notice, but some recent times where i've stayed sober and went out to a gig, i've came to the realisation that people are fucking stinking.

No this is not the case. Members clubs are not exempt from the ban, even smoker's clubs. lol

You can choose to not go to a bar where people smoke though, can't you.
One solution would be to have smoking and non- smoking bars then we would all be happy.
