Unsatisfied with the current dubstep sound ?

Unsatisfied with the current dubstep sound ? A call to all dubstep producers !

This is a call to all dubstep producers... EKAJ in particular ( the fact that he's not signed to a dubstep label remains a mystery to me, as his engineering skills and writing position him as a leader of the dubstep scene ).

I didn't want to spill the beans just yet but I guess it must be done if I want some contributions from dubstep producers.

I am currently working on a project which is called ( tentative title ) : " The future sound of dubstep " and it is meant to be a compilation ( available as a download through a website such as digital-tunes... will be discussed with the artists ) of forward thinking dubstep tracks.

I hear and read a lot of complaints about the " current dubstep sound " and this compilation, adopting a " no holds barred " approach, will try to bring something new and radical, s t r e t c h i n g the boundaries of what we think dubstep is and should be right now... of what we think is possible in dubstep... new directions... new production techniques... This compilation is an attempt, by producers who are observing the sound's evolution with growing concern, to question the " dubstep box ".

Potential contributors so far :

EKAJ
DAN MIRACLE ( Valve recordings )
CLAUDE601
CLAW
CELLMTK
DRKG
DAVE PHILLIPS / FLIPPO
DECOY
WASCAL
TITANIUM MIND
BLAM PRODUCTIONS
MAD DOG
PARADIGM SHIFT

This compilation is still in the planning stages but if you know someone who would like to take part ( submit a track ), if you would like to take part, let me know !

Intoccabile01@hotmail.com

Or pm me through here.

Thank you !

it just looks like another facking whinge thread about being too much like the weak side of garage or d&b (of which there has seemingly been millions in the last few weeks)

it wont get the attention you want it to

I got no complaints but you have a quality list of unsigned talent there.

I appreciate you trying to broaden the sound, but plenty of producers are doing that already. I get the idea that a lot of the problems are actually with an audience that won't accept new things unless they're done by one of the scene leaders.

I can remember one forum member doing a good, house influenced tune and people saying it's not dubstep and dismissing it and then a few months later Mala releases 4/4 tunes and it's then considered "innovative". No disrespect to Mala in the slightest (haven't heard a bad tune from him), but I think that attitude sucks.

Best of luck with the project, but I think the future sounds are already being developed independently.

I think it's a great thread title. The thread will now be viewed by loads of people who want to tell the threadstarter off for "whinging" or something along those lines, and therefore provide the project with loads of attention.

On topic, I don't see any harm with doing a project dedicated to pushing boundaries, and nobody said that there aren't any other producers around who are doing this at the moment as far as I can see. Some great talent on board too. Will be looking forward to hearing the results.

This is nothing new, this goes also to the producers of any kind of genre.
As also a Reggae DJ, I've seen this along time happening.

On topic though, I think this is a nice idea and I look forward to what each of these guys have to offer. I think the inovative aspect will make this a very interesting set of tunes but like Shonky said everyone (with a brain) is pushing the scene forward and being inovative it's just that a lot of them go unnoticed as they're not "Big" names

Good luck with this project

Some of the halfstep's pushing 145-150 but it's still really 72.5-75 in most cases. Still sounds fucking slow and has turned quite a few mates of mine off the sound as the pulse is too slow for anything but swaying. Not all tracks but too many for my liking

What started out as an interesting deviation becomes a tired formula very quickly

There is loads of stuff being done that isn't in the standard dubstep mold. It's just under the radar.

It is a point that has been made a number of times. Mainly by me. lol.
Some body can make a really good tune that doesn't adhere to hte standard dubstep template and it'll be ignored and some times even dissed.

To be honest the best response i've had for my tunes has always been for the standard half step bangers but, in my opinion some of my other tunes have been far better but have recieved little attention. Having said that they are my tunes and the less attnetion they have the better probably...haha
Rant over.

thats the way it seams to be from where i'm standing (right on the outskirts of the scene) there apears to be more tracks unrelaesed then released, by many good producers who aint had any reconition for the effert they have put in. i may be reading this wrong but dubsteps gonna split the same way every other genra of music has into say the dubby stuff, the house infulenced stuff, the more dark dutty industrial stuff, eveolution is the word, and it'll happen eventully, weather people like it or not.

So wil producers still own the copyright of their tracks and be free to use them on EPs / albums in the future?

I'm thinking of sending a couple of 320s :D

Yeah true.
there is a lot of really nice music being made within the dubstep
umbrella.

The thing is it takes money to put out a physical record which is an investment that people who have labels invariably want to at least recoup. This process of recouping investment has become more difficult than in the past i believe. Not to mention the shear volume of material being made under this umbrella now. It is nearly double or quadruple the amount of last years at this time.
That is why there seems to be a lag in the releases coming out in a physical form I think.

Intoccabile has the right idea i believe- yet his marketing approach leaves much to be desired.
