Hi, I've been playing the drums for 5 years now and just started getting to computer production. My favourite Dubstep / Hip-Hop / Electronica group ever -- StereoHeroes have served as an inspiration to me for years now, and I need help matching their style. What software do they use to amount such smooth basslines.

They're so amazing. Their drums are fairly simple, and can't say I've ever struggled to make something as decent, haha. But, if you take this track 00:52-57 and onwards; how did they make that sound? It's so clean. Is it an intrument (I thought it was a trumpet!), or is it simple synthesizers? These guys don't seem to have a vast record with musical instruments, so I'm assuming everything is in fact synthetic and automated.

Haha, sorry for sounding like a fanboy, but I just want to know what I need to learn to create such smooth beats.

Will do. You reckon it's all Massive, or are there additional synths. They use Ableton so I'm assuming they use Ableton's pre-set synths.

You could make that in Massive pretty easily with little processing. Just search what I said in Youtube, you'll find a tutorial for it.

robpapen blue, camel audio alchemy, or ni massive.

Geee wiz. I feel like a kid in a candy store. I'll stick with Massive, even though I have knowledge with Blue.

blue is actually super awesome. massive is kinda complex. alchemy is nice and simple, especially for those easy wave forms, just do 2 square waves with a 2 octave spread and lfo to cutoff... but you cant go wrong either way!

Yes! This helped a lot. Now I'm able to make the "Pixie" bassline, but I knocked it down an octave and added some EQ. Now I still need to find out how they made their Effigy bassline: http://youtu.be/yUm0l3GtwAY

Also, does anyone know how to make the keys played flow into each other? I used to know how to do it but I forgot :<

Portamento? Bad spelling I think. It helps glide notes between each other. You can edit the time it takes for that to happen also.
Almost certain this is what your searching for.

switch to mono, activate portamento

OK, modulating the pitch and raising the octaves doesn't amount to such a clean, crisp sound. Guess I have to take this to the House Forum.
