Give me some feedback guys! It's rough, but it's a work in progress. I'm really trying to focus on mastering and the quality. Got any key tips? I noticed this track came out unusually sausage-shaped.

Re: Ganjaman - Iconic
Hey dude, cheers for the feedback
I love the melody in the intro it is sick. My criticism is it sounds like you've got all your levels turned up to equalize volumes rather than turning down to match. Rather than turning your bassline up louder than the drums, try turning the drums down instead. Have you checked The Moneyshot Thread, it has everything you need to know about decent mixing and mastering

Re: Ganjaman - Iconic
Thanks alot, I don't know much about mastering yet, considering I've only been making tunes for like a month or so. I'm hoping to learn though, and really the only way to do it is to read up on it and try to fix it on my own :l
But I knew I wasn't doing something right when the song came out like a fucking sausage xD
And yeah, I do tend to turn the drums up over the bassline, it never occured to me to turn everything else down to match the song.... I know alot about music, and a ton about tone, specifially towards guitar, so like I can hear the difference between something that is good quality and bad, but I just don't have the actual KNOW HOW when it comes to mastering etc...
I did recently understand the resampling process. Now I'm working on using Vocodex with either Z3ta+ or Massive. Any tips on Vocoder wobbles? I hear downlink does it.

Lol no worries man, yeah that moneyshot thread is pure gold. Also watching unlimited amounts of tutorials and reading up is only gonna do you good. Sick work for only a month though.
I'm not too sure about how Downlink, etc do it as I use Reason, but I resample sometimes. Example, make a full bassline then render it as wav (96,000Hz is my preference but 48,000 is fine, make sure it is at least 24-bit) and then sample the rendered bassline and fuck around with it some more with effects etc, and like you said maybe even a vocoder
Haven't yet tried that though sounds like it could be fun
That's just how I do it, wouldn't have a clue about anyone else lol.

I actually find that I resample very little, one because my computer is a beast 4.0 ghz six core monster with 4 1tb 10000 rpm hds so I can make huuuuge effect chains without lag or crash, and two because I find that massive and FM8 can make suuuuch SICK noises without the need for much resampling. And as for your waveform, your intro is not any quiter than your drop, which is something that I consider to be no bueno, and it also seems to be turned up loud enough for some moderate clipping. When mastering try something like Multiband EQ > Multiband Comp > Exciters or additional processing > Soft Clipper > Brickwall Limiter, at least that is what I do for most of my tracks. Big ups!

Re: Ganjaman - Iconic
Monstro - I always feedback your shit, or at least have listened to most of it haha. When you say use a soft clipper, do you mean like a literal "SOFT CLIPPER VST" or something like that, or the soft clipper on Massive. I've been hearing alot of people tell me about clipping etc, and I don't really know what they mean yet.
Gpivo - when you talk about resampling using 96,000Hz, do you mean after I've used Edison or something to record it then drop it in the song, I'm supposed to somehow change the bitrate or Hz of the sample? I haven't noticed anything sticking out to me, allowing me to edit the Hz of the sample (note: I am using fruity loops, but I have ableton, if y'all would suggest using it instead of FL Studio.)

Fuck yeah, I love porn.
Re: Ganjaman - Iconic
@Monstro: I'll just tell you how I make some of my basslines
I'll create my preset in Thor or Malstrom, sort out root key, melody and arrangement, then when I'm happy with it I render the bassline itself as a WAV file (I don't know how FL works but Reason allows rendering at 96,000Hz. Then I'll sample the rendered bassline in NN-XT (sampler) and play around with it some more. But that's just me
Also, I don't prefer clipping tracks but when you do use compressors or limiters don't apply it to a master track, just turn everything down so it doesn't clip

Re: Ganjaman - Iconic
I've heard of maelstrom and thor. Any idea how they compare to albino and predator?
Re: Ganjaman - Iconic
Um I'm not too sure tbh, Malstrom and Thor are Reason synths, but it doesn't matter what synth you're using, they're all powerful synths and with enough time fucking around with 'em you should be able to pump out basically the same sounds from any, only differences really would be the voices available in the synthKinky wrote:I've heard of maelstrom and thor. Re: Ganjaman - Iconic
Thanks for all the help so far guys, without all the feedback, I'd still be fucking lost. I think I'm starting to understand where the drums, lows, mids, highs, etc need to be at on the dB meter... I'm going to post a test DnB song I wrote and I really would love if you guys could listen and tell me how it SOUNDS.
I didn't focus much on the riffs themselves, but simply where they were hitting on the dB meter, just tell me if the bass hits hard enough, if the drums are loud enough, etc, if y'all have time... Ya know, critique it.
And in return, I'm following most of you on soundcloud, and when y'all post shit, I'll be sure to listen and give some feedback.
Thanks! - Iconic
