SO I make all genres but lately my style I have found is more a long the lines of, I start a nice intro, then drop to a chill chord progression which sounds like it should have someone rapping of singing over it, then drop a breakdown, then drop a bassline or chorus or something that overpowers everything else. So it's a mix of hip hop and dub I would say. I want to know if it's possible to perform that kinda stuff. I don't know much about dubstep cuz I don't listen to much of it but I do have few I like and I inspire from dark deep stuff.

SO what I am asking of you folks is to fill me in on some experiences you may have had playing dub live OR send me some youtube links of more chill out artists preforming some sort of dub or chill out dub. I am curious to see how a crowd would react to something beside typical top 40 shit or typical kick clap kick clap type dj stuff.

I live in a kind of a small city in canada and dubstep is starting to be well known, but it's only skrillex spaztic shit It's not the deep style I like.

Recommend me some artists to check out live, and some tools for playing dub live like certain turntables or hardware or software or links or anything! Any help would be appreciated I want to make it a summer goal to start playing live, I've been producing for a year and a half now and It's time to make a change.

What does chill out dub mean? Guessing you mean dubstep, but what's chilled out?

Swear I've seen bods on here talking about anything that isn't proper jump-up, tear-out electro style stuff as "chilled" dubstep. To me, I don't really know much chilled out stuff, but I guess someone like Phaeleh or Clubroot?

Dub + hip hop = trip hop? Anyway go find Ruckspin, he's the 'atmosphere engineer' for 2 different bands (Submotion Orchestra / Gentleman's Dub Club)

So fucking unhelpful. So what I don't know every fucking sub genre of dubstep. Look deep inside your tiny brain and understand that I am just looking for some acts the play different forms of dub and go from there and send some links or recommend artists. Instead of wasting a few seconds telling me I don't know the difference between such and such. Fuckin' goon.

Anywho thanks to the couple of people who recommended someone though. I will check them out.

check out acts like james blake and eoto, from what i see they do all of their stuff live in concert, using midi controllers and some live instruments (drum kits, guitars). my friend also recently went to a show where doorly played, and he said that all of what he played was live... so you might check out some clips of him too. those are the only artists that i know of that do (from what i understand) what youre getting at

Dub is not dubstep. There's nothing to do with sub genres here. They are not at all the same thing.

Jesus, way to be a dick. Yeah the kid doesn't get the difference between 'dub' and 'dubstep'. Perhaps just tell him that 'dub' is a type of reggae music or a 'production technique'?

This is dub, it's not dubstep. This is a type of music that originated in the late '60s in Jamaica.

Now he knows. Now everyone who needs to feel better about themselves by stating that they know the difference between 'dub' and 'dubstep' can actually go ahead and help him.
