Have any of you guys came across a sound somewhere and immediately hit your DAW full of ideas?
Just curious as to what sparks some people's musical imagination (also I'm in a bit of a plateau )
Discuss!

Anything Harmony Korine does makes me go 'oh zing'.
Like I used the background noise from the short film he did for Proenza Schouler as the basis for an entire track.

Macro photography and listening to anything but Dubstep. Going through my foley folder gets the creative juices flowing too.
But for actual inspiration from my samples and that, I'd say it's more from writing patches. Few hours with only one synth can be a bit special.

Definitely feelin the different genre method.
A couple hours/days/whatever in a different genre leaves me feeling fresh when I come back to my DAW.
Sitting on one synth (or just resampling for hours) either leaves me satisfied and excited or frustrated and discouraged.

I just listen to old funk/electronica albums from the 70s at work all day and if anything grabs my attention I load it into Audacity and chop it out. Currently listening to this;

I love using samples, I can sit for hours just sampling stuff off of old vinyl. But the best ones Ive ever gotten were obtained by leaving my field recorder playing in a room full of my mates whilst having a serious weed sesh......
You havent heard a sample till you have one of your mates on tape, mashed out of his tree, proclaiming himself to be the son of God

I quit smoking a couple years ago but moments like this always make me miss the good old days sometimes

God must have been busy, because I've met a few of his other sons.

Yes wub, YES!
==
Yes to found sound, field recording, foley. A good synth has a handful of lfo's and envelopes, but in a 2 second sample there are like fifty envelopes and lfo's happening. So so rich, timbrally, rhythmically. Very inspirational.

Yes to vinyl sampling.
==
Yes to limits, like using one synth to make every component of your track, very inspirational.
Fuck yeah I love this site. Downloaded some water droplet and glass samples to play around with. Really fun and quick way to get stuff to experiment with.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w5wK7HE3fJM > Play intro, loop first 8 bars 4 times, play intro again... Could listen to that shit and friends freestyling over it for days... First thing I could ever even remotely beat juggle, and as cliche' and oversampled as the song is, Im proud of stumbling onto it without any guidance lol.
