Hey All, I have been learning to produce dubstep for the past 6-8 months and have been constantly searching for a very specific synth, I have provided two songs to illustrate the type of sound Im aiming for, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5CrrsrAyQ9w, the synth I am trying to shoot for is right at the drop at 0:55 in, Any Ideas? Furthermore I was also interested in the synth in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7RbkOCX8cU right at 1:09. I crave that thick (slighty filthy almost nero like) synth that Is more popular in the developing "melodic" genre of dubstep. I came here hoping someone may be able to assist me, or point me in the right direction. Anything helps, thank you all very much in advance ! Cheers-

P.s. I currently am using Logic pro 9, massive, fm8, absynth 4, and rob papen Albino 3 to name a few.

tbh thats a lot of expensive ass kit to have bought before learning how to make those...

FM8 is definitely the one for this i think

I think what you want is commonly called a reese bass. The basics of this start probably with two detuned square waves. These basses are heavily processed with FX. I have a lot of success with flangers, reverb, chorus, and Love Philter in FL Studio. There are tons of tutorials on DSF and elsewhere about these basses.

I was particularly interested in the thick chords that are present in the song during the drop at 0:55, my guess would be that they are just a bunch of layered synths?

I Currently use logic, do you know of any reese bass tutorials, or any websites that help explain how to do it ? thanks !

yeah the chords sound like a big stack of saw waves, multiple octaves, with a medium-long attack on the LPF envelope.

I thought the bass sounded more like a sine w FM than a reese. That is, if u mean the first video.

ive gotten somethin close to that. i use massive as well for my basslines and various synths but for something particularly that sound i used massive. of course you can use any synth that works best for you or is not some really simple subtractive synth and get that sound depends on your knowledge and experimentation.

What about the synth at 1:55 for the second video?

From which video have you gotten the synth close to? My first video or the second? If you have any guesses as to what the type of synth is in the second video at 1:55? and or know any tuts to help ?
