Need tips on making a real pure sub bass

I am trying to make a really deep sub bass but it's not as easy as I would have thought,
I would assume you could just pull up a pure sine wave in any synth and get it to around 33hz and crank it up
But..something about it just doesn't sound right I want to get that real deep dubby sub like Mala or on most deep medi releases. Does anyone have any tips on this?
