oneman/ben ufo/bok bok TRIBUTE MIX

i feel like i'm trying to fill big shoes with this one, but i wanted to do a mix in the spirit of the aforementioned djs - guys who have influenced the game big time in the past couple of years.

the mix was done as a bunch of segments, the intention of which was to break up the continuity of The DJ Mix that i think we're too used to posting up. so there's some downtempo shit in there, some interludes, and a whole sampha tune (is this ok?).

disclaimer: i'm not anywhere close to as technically skilled as oneman, ben, or bok bok; i may never be, so please don't take offense if i've tried to channel the spirit of the greats in this mix. my focus was on the selection and the blends, as well as the vast musical territory covered by these djs. oneman's boiler room sets have been a big source of inspiration for me specifically - he's really going out on a limb with the stuff he's been playing (and making it work), traversing hip hop and prince and what have you.

so feedback is more than welcome, but also, let's make this thread a collective "oneman/ben ufo/bok-bok appreciation thread". i think that they more than deserve it, and besides the older "oneman appreciation" thread, i don't think any others exist. big up them guys everytime!

i'll post a tracklist in a weeks time, so that there can be some virtual pleasures begotten from the reception of a new mixtape sans predictability. for networking purposes, though, i'll give credit to some of the unsigned beats in the mix:

whip my hair (dramatics dub)
&
the britney spears remix are by B.Ames - http://www.youtube.com/user/BAmesMusic - he was featured on the mikeq xlr8r podcast not too long ago.

the 'believe in love' tune is by DJ Sega (
edited this from before, since I found out that the guy who I had previously thought made the edit just ripped Sega's tune without the Sega tags and posted it up to Soundcloud as his own. really embarrassed that i missed that  )

and the beat after 'red' is called 'drumbeat' by gremino http://soundcloud.com/gremino

so without further ado:
Soundcloud

i hope y'all like it and that it lives up to its expectations.

lol. i thought i'd get some flack for that.

i threw that in there because of the chaka khan beat. sorta like an homage to the prince stuff that oneman's been playing.

Also, my apologies for the weird levels in the mix. I recently figured out that I'd been recording my mixes with a certain amount of headroom, so as not to clip, without raising the levels later or at least tweaking them a bit to get the most out of 'em.

[EDIT] I forgot to mention the irony of using the remix, since the original track is supposedly touted as dubstep-influenced (read:brostep). you can find the video on your own, although it's probably not worth your time, and additionally, i wouldn't want to sully the thread.

here's a couple more pieces of media:

if you haven't checked out generation bass (or dubstep warz) yet, do yourself a favor and give it a listen. you can find it somewhere on the net.

I dunno if anyone else hear's the influence, but alot of the techniques that I heard in this mix reminded me of Kode9's Babel tape. (I got it off of Barefiles, which seems to have miraculously disappeared from the net? Is Barefiles defunct? cuz that would be a shame.) Maybe it's just my inference.
