I have been reading quite a bit on Reaper, and overall the UI looks really nice and it has some awesome features. However, I'm a big fan of using stock plugins and so I was wondering if anyone would be able to give some insight (from those who have used other DAWs previous to Reaper) on what reaper's synths/instruments are like, as well as it's stock plugins/fx.etc? I've started to become quite a fan of Operator in Ableton Live and tbh, if Reaper doesn't have decent synths then I probably won't make the move.

Personally I don't really like most of the stock plugins, except the EQ...it's worth using for sure. I haven't fooled w/ the synths too much, but I really can't recommend any of the stock stuff FX wise. I have not downloaded the newest version, but from a quick glance at the update list doesn't look like much going on in the plug in department. There is a lot to like about Reaper...I do 90% of my sound design and beat programming in FL Studio then bounce, mix and arrange in Reaper.

Okay tha tpretty much answers it then. I don't really want to go searching for a stack of stuff that a DAW really should have, and should be decent.

na I won't bother - I already have a stack of licensed plugins that I can use - but I like working with stock stuff (especially if it's good), because it's written by the DAW manufacturer, which usually means better performance.

the compressor and the multiband dynamics are top notch. Reatune is a pitch corrector like melodyne and uses the same algorithms as the big guys. Delay and reverb are not that great.

I run FL but I've DL'd theyre EQ VST and I really like it...use all the time

I use the EQ over waves Req 4 band most of the time.
Plus and this will make a few cringe, the EQ presets are pretty spot on.
I use most of the JS plugins, Limiter, Comp, etc.

Reapers synths suck imo.

However the EQ, compressor, multiband compressor, gate, pitch shifter and FIR plugin are good.

I`ve been reading a fair bit of requests over at the Reaper forum for a native Reaper synth.
It will just make Reaper even better.

I think improving samplomatic so that you can quickly map Items from the arrangements as multisamples would be more useful than another synth.

TBH, I think people are a little lazy sometimes: I've built interesting sounding synths from the stock plugs in Reaper - you just have to be willing to play with the modules and chain 'em up in different ways, like ReaSynth > Tonifier (JS) > Compciter (JS) > Distortion (JS) > ReaFir.

No, it's not the same as having Massive or Absynth. Ultimately you'll want to find some other plugs... but it's still worth playing with IMO.

I think workflow comes into it tbh.

^ This is absolutely true. Some people like to tweak knobs more than others. I'm one of those people, but not so much so that songwriting takes a backseat.
