My fucking computer got a virus, erased my whole harddrive.

Have you not tried inquiring with a data recovery firm? Often stuff is still there but the indexes have been erased so they appear 'lost' but still exist on the hard drive (that's how police can trace stuff you'd 'deleted' since it still exists but doesn't have an index to appear in the operating system register, overwrite that shit bare!)

Back up, Back up, Back up.
Happened to me before and from now on I keep my shit on 3 seperate HD's. On in use on my pc, another one somewhere in my room and a third in a fire proof safe.
You should try to get your hands on a software called GetDataBack though, recovered most of my crashed HD with it, pretty much all of my music which is the absolute most important of everything of course.

There was a virus going round recently that made it look like your HDD had been wiped, have a check round, it might be that all your data is still there.

yeah this happened to me, but it really is a breath of fresh air, the first tune i made when i installed everything again is being played by ntype! and after that my music has just gone from strength to strength, finding new samples is great aswell.. Keep your head up.

Ironically, it was in the process of backing my stuff up this happened to me. Stupidly went with cut and paste from my HD to the new external HD, all fine, shut down the computer for the night. Got up in the morning, plugged in the external HD, BAM! No music. Nothing. Tried a system restore. Nothing. My dad found some recovery method, took about 2 days of my computer out of action, recovered about 99% of it, but about 5% of my songs would have random half-second snippets of other songs mashed in somewhere! Never made that mistake again.

sorry to hear that man. its horrible when that happens. it's happened to me about three times in the last 4 years. once I lost all my digital music collection and project files and wavs of songs that i'd made since i had started producing. lucky my friend had some stuff on their computer but i still lost about 80% of my stuff. hopefully you may have better luck than me and manage to recover it
