Formication's an odd one. You can get it from a fair few things. (Drugs being one of them)
My Dad went through a pretty rough patch a few years ago and he used to get it a lot. He used to lie in bed at night feeling like he was covered in insects. He said he could feel them crawling all over his skin.

When you bring it up in conversation people think you have a really odd view of sex because they don't usually clock the difference between formication and fornication.

Usually sleep deprivation that gives me this, or certain medication (diphenhydramine and amitryptaline in particular)

Yes diphenhydramine and its cousin dimenhydrinate do this very well when you take more than 1 or 2. It's an odd experience.
I've had this going on as well for the last week, because we had a bad flea problem outside and some got in and I was feeling a couple on my legs every once in a while. Seems to be taken care of indoors for the most part, but I still feel them crawling on me, except when I look nothing is there. Also haven't been getting much sleep, never really do.

Also ma lot of times whenever I wake up and I am half asleep I always think I see weird bugs in my room, freaky shit
Migraines are quite like a trip to me. One time while on a migraine trip, I got visuals like from a medium lsd trip, minor breathing, warping, and that kind of shit. Besides the horrific, knife throbbing pain I get in my head just above my right eye they are pretty fun to experience

ants are a classic hallucinatory response to feelings of lonliness...

I think the combination of mild HPPD from all the acid I've done in recent months combines with sleep deprivation, because whenever I'm tired, I get tracers, walls breathing, if I'm on the computer the screen looks like it's constantly moving closer, I smell things that aren't there for a couple seconds, and sometimes if I'm on a dark page, white text and stuff gets a rainbow aura.

hallucination is simply a cheap way for denying whats really going on
check enough times, you'll find a spider

Last week I was watching a film & only had a couple of draws from a spliff. I started to see black for a couple of seconds & when my vision returned I could see clusters of flies flying about! It took about 30 seconds to go away, it wasn't scary, kind of kool. Im glad it didn't last though.

Ahh this has happened to me in also, while in school. I wasn't used to the florescent lighting coming back from summer break, all of a sudden without any pain it was like i could't see in certain places, like partial blindness. It was pretty cool until I threw up because of the pain.
