Moog analog chorus/flanger

This is the best moogerfooger without a doubt and I can't wait to get my grubby mitts on one :D Midi, more LFO waveforms than any other moogerfoogers, including s&h, and he usual cv outs. Looks like it's gonna be pricey for the UK ($600 US), but with just a limited run it's likely to have an even higher resale value. Can't wait myself.

Image
The Cluster Flux is an analog BBD based chorus flanger w/ Tap Tempo modulation for guitar players, and extensive MIDI control for keyboardists, recording, etc. This new Moogerfooger takes the Chorus/Flanger to a completely new level, significantly expands the musician's sonic palette; and is CV as well as MIDI controllable.

· The Cluster Flux provides warm, great sounding analog chorus / flanger / vibrato effects. In addition, it has a much wider (and wilder) range of modulated delay line effects than traditional chorus / flangers due to the extended range of front panel controls, the multi-waveform LFO, and the extensive CV and MIDI control.

· The LFO has six waveforms. Use sine or triangle for classic chorus flanger effects. Check out the Sample and Hold, Square, Sawtooth, and Ramp for radical new sounds. There are no analog chorus / flangers that have a sample and hold capability

· In Flange mode, you adjust the delay time from approx. .6 to 10 milliseconds. In Chorus mode, from approx. 5 to 50 milliseconds.

· The Feedback control is continuously bi-polar for both non-inverted and inverted feedback for flanging with even or odd harmonics.

· The MF-108M has both input drive and output level control so you can use it from instrument to line level.

· Parameters are MIDI controllable and the MF-108M will ship with an application editor for managing the array of possibilities. Just one example of the many applications: Control the delay time with MIDI notes for "tuned" flanger comb-filter effects.

· There's a Feedback Insert jack on the back for external processing of just the wet signal just after the BBD's.

· The design includes high voltage MN3007 BBD's for their superior headroom and excellent signal to noise ratio.

what can this do that 100's of vst plugins can't? i never get this analog thing, if people like rusko can make awesome beats on a pc then wheres the need for stuff like this?

Yeah, they'll pretty much take anything as their input. I love them all and each knob has it's own cv out, the more you have the more crazy things can get. I'm shipping my LP off soon for the cv out mod so it can be the center of my own all moog modular :-)

Not sure if that was a serious comment or not :|

In other news UEFA president Michael Platini has announced plans to abandon the Champions League as we know it in favour of just a mass game on the PS3. "The logistics were just a nightmare, and after a survey the players said they just couldn't be arsed when it's so easy to just switch on the TV and playstation. We'll hold the tournament round my gaff. In this digital world I've also sacked the orchestra from doing the theme. My mate Sepp linked me a torrent to Vengeance Orchestra Stabs II, it's all we need."

I was trying to come up with a suitably flippant analogy myself, but this way better

It's stored on a remote server at the FIFA Fortress Of Doom underneath their hollowed out volcano.

lulzsec will release it soon.

Does look sick. I want it too! :corncry:

I would love some (all) moogerfoogers... and a voyager.

Will be steep over here tho.

seriously, i've never used a bit of kit like that. i'm just curious as to what it can do vs vst plugins + a decent midi controller?

You can definitely get similar result with plugins. Some will argue the analog side of it adds more warmth to colour the sound (I'm one of them), but my reasons for prefering hardware are more to do with my approach. I prefer the hard way. I love moogerfoogers and pedals because of the lack of presets. I love patching things together, and discovering a sound, then the only way to save it is with patchsheets or taking a picture. To me it's more fulfilling and it inspires me delve deep into how it works. It's just not the same feeling with a vst imo. Plugins are expensive but most will be worthless in 10years. Hardware retains it's value mostly. I was trying to explain this to my bank manager yesterday actually. My savings account is gear. If shit hits the fan it's always easy to sell and it's a helluva lot more fun than money sitting in a bank account :-)

ah thanks for the explanation. so its basically because you find it more enjoyable to use? i can understand that. i gotta admit they do look fun to use, i'm quite new to all this and am struggling just to get to grips with vst's at the mo.

i've heard of people taking photos on analog hardware to save presets. chromeo do that on their studio vid.

as far as the analog warmth thing goes, my point was that a lot of the pros just use software and make it sound sweet, which is why i didn't really see the point in getting any analog stuff. plus i make tunes on my laptop so like to keep it portable. when i get a decent room setup i think i might invest in a couple of analog synths or plugins to mess around with, see what its all about!

Well that's just me, and I prefer doings that way. The majority are now ITB, and get amazing results, but it's all down to what works best for you. Try getting down to somewhere you can demo all the toys, and decide for yourself. A lot of hardware will still have a high resale value so it's somewhat affordable to buy and sell until you have all you need to make production he most fun it can be.

From my experience with moog hardware, they have a completely unique sound that has never been replicated by software or other hardware. Serious character and serious fun to program and play with. Hopefully I can find the money to get one of these-- the moogerfooger ring mod and murf are two of my favorite effect pedals ever.

I was just in the music shop, and was fooling w a little phatty. I was shocked by the negative impression I got. Didn't like the sound and it just felt so cheap, plasticy. Honrstly my old an1x had a better feel. All this stuff is very subjective.

Think that maybe you set your expectations too high? I can say that I felt the same the first time, I expected resistance on the knobs like moogerfoogers have but after 3 years of use I prefer the loose feel, especially for quick filter sweeps. I really love the LED's for each knob, I wish every synth had them. The keys are very plasticky and quite difficult to play, but that doesn't bother me too much as I'm absolutely shite. Above all I just think that moog sound is unique, the filter kicks ass. It is very limited in function, with little modulation options, but with the cv out mod that fixes that area. It really shines for me with massive reese's. I really want a voyager, but one moog is enough. 3 mono synths is probably overkill.
