I've been tweaking for some time but i cant get the right bloody sound.
I have geektronic's and other vst's. But no tutorials aren't helping me.
Don't get me wrong, im not blatantly trying to copy his sheeit.
Just getting an idea of how to make similar sounds.
Massive user so.

Do you have any evidence he does this vs. just being really good with his synth?
Just saying, i think this forum perpetuates a bit of a myth there... resampling is a very powerful technique, but I dont think distortion and all that is as big a factor is some of these sounds as people make it out to be. I think they're just really good at patch design, and the distortion and ect is used very subtley to add a bit of extra thickness and power...

yeah no one can nail his basses spot on so they just assume he resampled to the tits and it can never be replicated unless your him pretty much which could be somewhat true but not always. iv heard plenty of basses from excision that i believe to be just straight out of the synth. like the main bass in reploid. but i think is morphing robot rapping synths are probly resampled. then again i am just talking out my ass

Excision could probably tell you himself what he does, he's on the forums. Look for his posts.
I believe he uses samples of hydraulics.

@ Basic
Spot on mate. Resampling is given way more credit than it deserves. I hear a lot of basses that more than likely come straight out of Massive's scream filter + a saturation plugin or two to give it beef.
I'm not really sure why people love to answer people's questions with resampling either. That's like saying, "yea man, bounce to audio. that's how you make that sound."
@ OP
If you've got Massive, you can make your bass more aggressive using
1) The scream filter
2) The parabolic shaper insert
3) A touch of phasing using the modulation oscillator
After that, try driving a saturation plugin. Finally, sweep an EQ to scoop out one or two hot spots. Most of the time this will yield positive results.

I thought I saw a post by him saying that he does resample some of his stuff. I'm not saying he resamples all of his basses, I just think that some of his sounds would be hard to get straight out of a synth (and I'm not doubting that its impossible, I guess thats just my opinion).

Layering also works in this method, instead of using saturation plug-ins. Then you can EQ the bass a little more and add some cool harmonics.

um kinda like in "boom". in one part of the song it almost sounds like the bass says something at like 40 seconds. and pendulum - showdown (excision remix) the growly bass he has in that one. many others but i cant think of them off the top of my head.
on a side note i also consider gecko by datsik to be a morphing devil robot thats rapping
thats what i think of when i hear the song.

Honestly the best way to get the Excision noises is to do what everyone else from Rottun did, and that is to spend a metric fuck ton of a lot of time on their shit, perfect it, then songs like Existence and Hydraulic come out like its nothing.
You have to take a second and listen to the older Datsik songs like gecko and boom to really get an idea of his progress.
After all of the sound design I've ever done to achieve the 9ft Robot Cock-O-Doom sound, I've learned that the best way to do it is to Frequency Split the bass and layer. It took me a long time to realize that I can make a very powerful sounding synth with no bass, then mimic everything I'm doing with a plain legatto triller subbass. Adds soooo much dimension especially when you use powerhouse synth vst's like nexus.
As far as the growling Lucifer sounds are concerned, if you're talking about the ones that are like an accent or little 2 second growl, I believe he is just using a yawning lion or tiger sample and reverbing the ever living shit out of it.
just my $0.02

this is a perfect example of sounds I know come straight out of massive, and only have distortion on them for mix glue and added harmonics.

Seriously?
Some of those sounds do sound a little bit stock!
But some sound like they have been crushed several times? (idk i'm still fairly new)
What about the crazy song Fierce by Dodge & Fuski?
Has that been resampled?
I'm really curious since I haven't been very successful with mine lol

One thing I can recommend is making a bass sound you want in massive and then setting an unused osc to Rough Math II and formant. Adjust the WT-Pos and and then automate the intensity. Good for those hydraulic noises.

have you ever conversated to him about his sound design when you got releases on his label?

Resampling is a vague term.
Not an effect, not a magic button.
Work from GREAT patches, then resample them to arrange and beef it up.
You cant tell if something was render to wave and opened into a sampler, which is all resampling means.
Im saying people around here put too much emphasis on distortion and effecting and not enough on core synthesis.

sounds like it could be just a normal patch with fx but no one will ever know. my guess is its not resampled..
and yeah Basic A i agree it does seem like everyone here does emphasize distortion and just classify something they cant figure out as "resampled". man i need to learn real sound design. i know some basic principles and i just work from there...just randomly tweaking to my liking. i can get some decent results but i cant really just be like "i want to make this particular sound" and go make it, without researching first anyway...
