how many of you don't use the same patches in every project that gets started? do most of you start from scratch? just wanted to know how others approach production as i usually start from scratch but just use other saved patches I have. haven't really found "my own" sound yet. i wanted to give away this patch if people really want it and see what others can do with it and post up results if you are willing to or just keep the sound without me even knowing it is your choice. but also how many of you really look into a lot of different types of synthesis and actually pay attention to what knobs you are pressing? other than just watching tutorials and copying from them as I noticed some producers do?

same here. i use different drums as well.

it's usually same type of sound but different characteristics. I have a good amount of reeses and im making new ones everyday so I guess I would say yeah I reuse so audio parts but not all the time. I do use different types of drums though

Everything new every time. This is mostly stupid, but so am I.

I usually spend my time making patches, and then I get inspired by a sound I just made and go from there.

Before my computer crashed, I had like 400 patches and I never used any of them because I kept on making more lol.

me three. new sounds every time. different drums too cuz I got gigs of em.
so much more fun to do new synth sounds every time than to just reuse the same ones.

yea but a lot of people go pretty far from the same synth patches if it is their definitive sound like look at getter, lonestar, bare etc now don't get me wrong i like a lot of there songs but you could make a sound and just go from there and just change up the drums everytime just rinse out the same synth patches. i am waiting to do that aha will be a lot easier making songs and people will know that is my track as well. it's hard though coming up with something different that no one else has that actually sounds good.

Don`t rinse a synth patch.
Guys create a cool sound but just toss away their musical integrity.
I want to produce music but I couldn`t be bothered to make it original.
You`ll just fail from a longevity standpoint.

I never save patches in my synths. I just save everything as a wav file. so I have a folder full of sounds I've created. if you are working on a larger project (ie. not just a single song) then it can be nice to have particular sounds (even if they are altered) spanning across various tunes. this can help to tie the whole project together.

that's not so much of a great idea buddy. if you save the patch you can come back and modulate it and twiddle with it while with a wav file you can just resample it. i would have a bounced version and a saved patch so it's the best of both worlds.

actually i have only said that because it sort of is. it's not exaggerated at all. not so much of an understatement my friend. of course I didn't list anything else like chopping, graining and whatnot because it wasn't needed to be listed. you could do a lot with the actual patch of the synth than a wav of some quarter lfo'd bassline. a stab is something different though but still you have more advantage over the actual patch. a slight understatement if you will. and it wasn't a significant understatement either as it was not exaggerated or any altercation

Call me ignorant or whatever. But dont you know a rusko song cause of the sound? Or even a casPa or burial song? And dare I say skrillex. Not really using the same patches over and over. But maybe a variation of it, but IMO using same techniques or basses is what defines "your sound" but as always throw new shit in tracks too, don't misread it.

using a stab over and over and over will become redundant.
Change the stab slightly and add some character will essentially mean the sound is different.
Vast difference to that and rinsing a sound over and over.
keep the sound original

I think one may innovate a sound by utilizing a lot of the same elements throughout their tracks. 90% of producers have a pretty consistent sound, even if the tracks vary. Its just a matter of finding that sound. All it really is, is a culmination of your tastes and influences, created into something that you have made yourself. Trying to be original will only prove an obstacle (i.e- time wasted thinking about what has not been done), you just gotta let if flow and dictate its own path!

i already know this but i have noticed some known producers who have releases and they have sounds that are exactly from a tutorial. all my sounds I have created weren't from watching any tutorials either. and what I generally meant by using the same sound is by varying it up a bit, but you can still hear the same characteristics of your original sound and obviously have different atmospheres in every track not like your going to use the same lead over and over again.
