that woof looks crazy. never seen a double surround like that, it looks like something that probably hasn't been reproduced again.

Looked on ebay if anyone is selling a speaker to replace it? If its too expensive or not on there, try putting the other speaker on and buy replacement with that.. are you just listening music or also producing?

What sort of budget are you on? KRK make really good monitors and have lines to suit different budgets >> http://www.krksys.com/

Mackie are another prestigious audio brand and make great monitors >> http://www.mackie.com/

For more, have a look at this article on junodownload >> http://www.junodownload.com/plus/2011/0 ... -monitors/

If you are after a 5.1 system, the Logitech Z5500 is really good, THX certified... >> http://www.amazon.co.uk/Logitech-Digita ... B0006HBCL8

...although Logitech have just discontinued it because its been replaced by the Z906 system >> http://www.logitech.com/en-gb/speakers- ... vices/7929

Could help more if you give an idea of budget...

cant go wrong with KRK rp8s imo. Or if you're on a budget or work in a small space, rp5s will do you. Only a 5" cone but i was thoroughly impressed with my mates pair, they almost keep up with my rp8s. almost.

I have the RP5s and they're great. Working with sub bass in a track can be a little annoying at times, but for the most part they pick up pretty low frequencies.

yeh i agree, they go down to 50hz i think....not ideal but at least you get the all important 60 hz....and for 250 quid new you cant go wrong...as long as you've got a spectral analyser handy =]

No you need a soundcard with xlr/jack outputs - here's your kit:

100e uros for the KRK 5 + 50 euros Lexicon Omega Soundcard = 150 euro's
Or

150 for the KRK's 5 g2 with stands and cables plus 50 for the Omega = 200 Euros

Wow - producing music has become so cheap these days... You even have money left for a legit copy of massive ;)

My soundcard only has 1/8inch outputs, but I just have a cable is 1/8 on one end and splits out to 2 RCA inputs. Is it bad to have them set up like that?

So wait, the RP5's are good enough? I was thinking of spending 500 on the RP8's, but maybe if the RP5's are good enough I'll just get those.

Also, what does frequency range actually mean? Like, I have some old CHEAP crap speakers that can play every frequency, so I don't get how monitors can't do that either.

These are my speakers:

The frequency range is limited by physical characteristics of the monitors. 5inch translates to 55hrz +- and the focal 65 for instance; with 6.5 inches translates to 45hrz (-3db)

And having 50hrz and excellent monitors is better than having 45hrz and crappy speakers. Not saying krk's rokkits are excellent; they are fair for the price i guess.

They cant play every frequency, that wouldnt make sense, nothing can play a 1hz tone, if it could, it would probably look more like a fan then a speaker.

when these guys say frequency response, they mean the lowest to highest frequency the speakers can effectively reproduce, measured in hz, usually, manufacturers will include this in the specifications of the speakers...

Humans cannot hear 1Hz, period. My headphones/monitors don't go that low but i could still hear it, so it's obviously not 1Hz. Your speakers are just messed up man ;-)

Well, the speaker is turned all the way up so it's distorted, adding harmonics I guess. It's definetly not pure, that's for sure lol.
