Youtube: Can high hits hurt your image?

Hey guys
So I was overly curious at a video a friend posted of my tunes on youtube (A Dubstep remix of 'Mad World', by Gary Jules), as I know it had collected alot of hits. I checked it today and was shocked to find it the second most viewed remix of the tune on youtube (second only to a bafflingly popular Happy Hardcore Remix)
Now, it doesent take a genius to tell me that this dub is crap. It was very near the first Dubstep tune I made, and I also made it in mid 2008. (uploaded by my good friend Okibi around 2/3 months after). and there are just a million and one things I could have done better. What I'm curious about is this:
as still a very unknown producer, do you think having a madly popular 'mediocre at best' track that people can stick a name to is even worth having out there? Do you think i've screwed myself by having the wrong tune get popular? Has anyone noticed trends like these in music? am I annoying the shit out of anyone who reads this by sounding like a keener?
maybe.
