Parallel Compression Demo

So I have been playing with Parallel Compression with mixed results initially but I think I have it working quite well in this tune.

I have 2 sends running with comps on. An EQ before the Comp so one is only squishing Bass and Trebles and the other is just Mids.
Ratio is roughly 3:1, slow attack and fast release.

I sent from individual channels to have more control with drums and bass getting most sent....

:4:

to my ears it still sounds like the drums are a little buried. i wud try mixing more of them into the comp, or less bass. maybe just standard compression on bass and parallel just on the drums, with a higher ratio/lower threshold to really get em to smack.. mixed with the dry signal they will punch

Nice informative post

I didn't listen because I didn't want to, but you're going to get people saying "should be in the WIP/Feedback Thread", even though this isn't a WIP and you're just trying to discuss parallel compression. Just saying.

Yeah was just talking NY comp!

never really bothered with it before but quite enjoyed playing with it. Does seem to be effective to get that Thump in there.
I had not used an EQ before the Comp before and that really seems to make a big difference.

I see what your saying about drums and Bass sent to same comp though and I think you can hear it when the low bass comes in the drums get more squashed? I quite liked that effect when I mixed it as it seemed to increase intensity of the bass....
I had noticed a similar effect on some older DnB tunes... maybe by mistake! :) or my old needles....

I nearly just posted 16 bars to hear the effect!

If anyone wants the Effect rack from Ableton I would be happy to share. Or the sub Bass patch from Reaktor/Lazerbass.....

Other thing I was thinking about but kind of ignored was possible problems from phasing?

I usually am very precise about where my Sub bass goes and whether it is in Phase and Mono etc...

seems to me it would be possible to actually lose Bass by mixing 2 versions of together especially if one is slightly delayed by going through additional inserts....
