what defines dubstep??

how would u define dubstep?? is it to do with wobbles,drum patterns? bpm? im interested my self as i thought it was the drum pattern kick on 1st snare on 3rd, but people are changing that up a bit and experimenting so i have read.
so yea,how would u define it?

For me it's the interaction between the percussion and the low end .

Dubstep is combining sub bass, ambiance, and experimental drums to create an alternative form of electronic music that seperates itself from the metallic mainstream scene of EDM today.

If it's crazy noises and has that kick on the 1, Snare on the 3 drum pattern, it's dubstep. If it has that swingy drum beat with the very mellow lead and heavy sub bass, it's dubstep.

My dad asked me what Dubstep was when I told him I produced it, and I really didn't know what to tell him.

Subbass and drums at a slow/moderate tempo; around 130-150, 65-75. Speed the tempo up and you have drum & bass. :6: :D

in 2011, anything at 140 bpm is classed as dubstep. sadly

I never get the idea that dubstep is inherently experimental or diverse.
