i cant listen to those songs right now as i am on the move on the ipad, but re: impact, yes that is something i find as well. Its a trap i find myself falling into as well, where i go shopping on beatport and find a few days later that a lot of the songs i picked up because of a big build up-drop have no staying power at all. This is why i tend to have baskets saved for a month or so, so i can keep reviewing the tunes and see what sticks.dj donga wrote:ok

but i seem to have been gradually amassing a fair bit of stuff by Red Rack 'Em
The sound combinations within this track below on a recent ep on Bergerac did strange things to my head
(for example listened to in fair quality headphones there's these almost subliminal occassional cross rhythmic bass hits that had me thinking there were people knocking on my door. this caught me out a couple of times)
the tune has a wonderful meandering momentum - starting in a fairly dense and psychedelic space evolving with these odd stretchy sinuous lead synth lines before breaking down or disassembling itself beautifully as it comes to an end
sadly this short clip doesnt do the full arrangement justice at all
as well as appreciating tunes that have specific punchy and floor smashing arrangement structures that are quite common around here, i really enjoy the more ambiguous jammed-out sounds of house taken back to its hypnotic core which is perhaps less-celebrated
it seems like a kind of slow-motion house music to me
sometimes there's an almost stillness at it's musical core but still with hypnotic grooves pushing forward
it's a shame that house music that takes more time to reveal it's beguiling nature struggles to make an impact when put alongside blatantly BIG tunes with sick drops. my favourite djs dont just pile on the pressure, they drop things down, take things down strange alleyways before bringing me back to my senses. all mixed tightly of course

think it was posted in another thread somewhere's but i'll post again for its simple beauty
its also frustrating to emulate that style of mixing. for instance i will hear a tune in a mixthat sounds amazing, that when i listen to it seperately i fail to see any spark in it. often i find it hard to tell if my own mixes create that sort of journey, or if im doing just a tune into another into another.
and yes it seemed like a silly statement i made it the start, but i was just trying to express my frustration at the superficiality of this forum, where (with a few notable exceptions) most of the content is given over to forthcoming releases and yesmanning the next big thing stuff. i know i probably shouldnt care and i probably dont but just wanted to make a fuss.

i like how because there is so much house made, there waaaaaay mor slept on gems, completely forgot about the marcus intalex/st files -its taking over me-such a good lick, and just general more good stuff that when unearthed or recontxtualised can sound really fresh.

The thing i like is suddenly we have a whole new world of tunes open to us.
i mean we have the heads like addison groove pearson sound loefah etc that we all know and love
but then because we're going in at around 130 we can bring in a selection of techno and house tracks from producers outside of the "uk scene" if you will.
ive never been able to do that before. was always d&b producers on dnb producers or dubstep on dubstep.
now weve got house, funky, techno, tribal, garage, progessive..... dj can come bring a bunch of tunes from a bunch of producers no ones ever heard of in our scene but have been around for time in others.
such an exciting point in music!
