Slime returns with another super fresh debut courtesy of Brooklyn-based Archie Pelago. With a variety of tempos, moods and sonic textures, the band is committed to producing powerful tunes inspired by cutting-edge bass music culture. As experienced instrumentalists raised on the vast and varied New York musical melting pot, members Hirshi, Kroba and Cosmo D let the improvisational spirit of their home city seep into their music, while still maintaining bassweight.
The “Chocolate Waveplates” EP contains four tunes made when Archie first started meeting at Cosmo D's studio in the Fall of 2010. Producer/DJs Submerse, Cromie and Eyelove, who all have remixes on the EP, visited the studio during this time period with their own contributions and ideas. In many ways, "Chocolate Waveplates" is where Archie's musical journey begins, the start of a fruitful and unpredictable sonic fellowship that now sees them recently having opened for visiting DJs like Oneman and Ben UFO at XLR8R's Turrbotax party in New York as well as remixing Distal's upcoming release for Pinch's Tectonic imprint later this fall.
‘Arcjoe’ is a deep house odyssey like no other. A refreshing summer breeze of a melody floats in on horizontal keys and bubbling basslines before the individual elements combine and conspire to capture your heart.
‘Choppin’ Fruit’ fuses the raw ingredients of dubstep with incredible instrumentalism to produce an intoxicating and medative journey into the redemptive power of sound.
‘Rude Panacea’ rolls in on a wave of low bass and skittering percussion, an electronic tonepoem that hypnotizes and beguiles in equal measure.
‘Hej Otto’ sees the band take the autonomic route with a mesmerizing piece of music that uplifts your spirits. Perfect for those hazy late night sessions.
Cromie takes on ‘Arcjoe’ for the first of three towering remixes, with a playful uptempo adjustment of the original and extrapolates it into a pulsating house anthem.
EYELOVE provides a startling take on ‘Hej Otto’ which bodes well for his debut release on Slime later in the year. Here he conjures up a potent brew of melodic dubstep with two sublime switches that will electrify your soul.
Slime’s garage don Submerse returns to the fold to provide a haunting, heartbreaking mix of ‘Chocolate Waveplates’, like only he can. Still the true master of his art, none can test his skills when dropping the most bittersweet of melodies.
