Is this advised? I never quantize my recorded melodies, or even manually shift them to grid, because I feel it ruins the groove. But I've come across the problem of my melodies, riffs and basslines not looping properly because of this, which creates a really broken, poor flow :<

And a lot of the work I tend to do relies heavily on loop based productions. Any advice?

just make sure you play in time, like record only the input of your instrument, while also playing the drum loop in the background so you can stay on point.

I quantize quite a bit - especially the first note of a bar - if it's going to hit on the kick it SHOULD hit exactly the time and match the attack of the kick.

I usually record my melodies etc in via the MIDI keyboard, jamming along to either the metronome or a partially constructed drum beat depending on what stage the project is at. Once I've got a few sections I like, I go into the Piano Roll and edit manually to take care of any slips etc. Most of the human feel of the notes (spacing/velocity/etc) is left alone to give it a more natural feel.

It sounds like the loops your using are at a slightly different tempo, maybe try chopping them up and moving them around a little or time stretching them? or changing the tempo of your track to suit the majority of the loops you wanna use. Sometimes something coming in a little out of time can work well though, just depends on the situation.

which is the main point... do whatever it takes to make it sound good. unquantised does not automatically equal groove and feel. if you cant play keyboard, or dont have a midi keyboard, quantising is more than likely going to help.

What quantize settings are useful in the FL piano roll?

I have the same problem, come up with a sick melody but it's always out of time, editing manually usually ends up fucking up the flow.

I have it set to 1/2 step when I record, I use 1/6 or none
