Does your ADD/ADHD help your producing?

Random question.
I hope this doesn't offend anyone. If it does just leave.
Anyhow, I was diagnosed with ADD (which I think I actually have ADHD because of the symptoms) about 14 years ago or so. I notice my symptoms either show up or effect my production skills in a positive manner (the way I enjoy something sounds, how I switch from multiple tasks), etc.
I don't know, does anyone else have positive production side effects from their ADD/ADHD or am I just alone here?

I don't have ADD but I have schizophrenia. I swear my musical and production skills were flowing really well before I got medicated. Now it's really difficult to come up with stuff.
Then again, my concentration may be affected by the schizophrenia too.
Either way, it sucks.

ADD and ADHD are not problems and do not need to be medicated
i pity every child whose parents subject them to these awful awful drugs
if anything, the "condition" is a gift
these kids don't have problems paying attention so much as they have problems paying attention to things that they don't give a shit about.
cutting edges off a square peg to make it fit in a round hole is no way to live life. find a square hole.

Kids need to learn to read & write still.
But sooo many people are diagnosed ADD / ADHD now
One of my pet theories at present is the link between ADD / ADHD meds being thrown about & the Ice / Meth epidemic

i've known people that start meth in order to function by someone elses standards. you start it, and get praise from your school and/or job... and its downhill from there

I completely agree with you, the point of the matter is that if one thing in my production process doesn't keep my interest, I just know that it's something I have to come back to later because it's not up to my standards.
Couldn't have said it better myself!

ADD causes me concentration issues while making tunes. always been hard for me to finish them. then i smoke weed, and it's on with the shoooow!
weed has helped my concentration more than any medication ever did.

ADD and ADHD are totally behavioral - there is no chemical correlation, so unlike depression where the drugs are given to treat a purpoted "chemical deficiency" (which is arguable), you are giving kids potent stimulants merely to reduce thier drive to play.
How amphetamines and related drugs, such as MPA (ritalin) came to be used for add is interesting. Doctors were doing research on the effects of amphetamines in apes and they found that when dosing apes, they apes stopped playing and just did the things most necessary to continue thier survival. They socialized less, and did things like organize thier "home", collect food, etc.
Same thing happens in people/kids - they stop playing and do the things that are necessary for survival (in our case, we've evolved where symbolism is capable of producing a release of stress hormones similar to those that other animals release when in a dangerous situation. If we ie) can't come up with rent, then we have the same response we would if we were attacked with a knife).
I do find that the drugs help me write some great music. But I've never had a perscription...
Methylphenidate (ritalin) acts on the brain similarly to cocaine if I remember correctly, causing the Dopamine reuptake receptors to be blocked increasing the ammount of dopamine in the synapse. This leads to downregulation of receptors tho, so tolerance to the effects develop similarly quickly to those of cocaine.

"Autism" as well. There is an "autism awareness" campaign happening in advertising spaces in Chicago. It has a picture of clean- but confused-looking black kid and states, "A child is diagnosed with Autism every 20 minutes." The implication is "Look around. People with Autism are
everywhere. What's to be done with
them?"
Wierd biz, all of it. All I know is that the incarcerated youth I work with are lab rats. Court-ordered meds!

Dont assume bro, I actually agree with all the points you made above - I'm only thinkin of the kiddies well bein in being able to read & write.
I'd actually much rather they come up with there own ways around - I just know how hard it is being illierate ina litterate culture.
Wot gives me an aneurysm is how someone so appranttly intelligent can act so very silly.

This is the truly worrying thing...
Attempting to medicate out what evoloution has spent 100s of thousands of years cultivating.
What is 'anti-social behaviour' now was once, & will be, vital skills for the ongoing viability of out species.

+1 Whaaa!
On my own, it's might be more a kind of lack of self-confidence with a bit of a too much drug that make me less active...

say what you want about schizophrenia, but make sure you have your research and facts straight. i've researched it and lived it, so i can smell b.s. from a mile away about schiz.

me too. i believe that there are separate realities that coexist on this plane. some people are tuned into them, and some aren't. either way, stick with what works.
Regarding medication, i was feeling rather clinically depressed for a period of time, and prozac really helped me work myself out of that depression. Notice i said that it helped me work myself out of depression. i dont believe that the drug is the answer, just a means to an end, if you feel its necessary.
as far as ADD/ADHD goes, i too feel as though it's bullshit. I was diagnosed with ADD when i was in 6th grade and i was never on medication. i didnt get the best grades in math, but im fuckin grateful that i wasnt ever medicated.
if i get bored with producing, i dj, and if i get bored djing, i produce. if i get bored with both, i make a sandwich and watch a movie. this is the perfect hobby
