mate you HAVE to go to the Jewish museum, the building is unbelievable. Incredible. Although the exhibits get a bit dry and long winded, it goes into major detail on every aspect of Jewish history. Good though, but totally overshadowed by the architecture which is truly immense. Try to visit the memorial to the murdered jews of europe too, epic scale sculpture.

If you can face the queue to get to the top of the Reichstag building also, its well worth it. The views are amazing from the top of the dome.
Also, check out the East Side gallery, largest remaining section of the Wall, there are some really good murals. I was there for 5 days, barely enough time to scratch the surface. I'm sure some of the Berlin heads will give you some good ideas for nightlife etc. I speak only from an architectural point of view cos i went with my course...

Everywhere you go there is something interesting so i'm sure you won't be bored, but seriously try to get to the Jewish Museum.

*gah
shame...wanted to direct you towards the Monster Kabinett, which is fun for an hour and off the beaten track....
Seems it's closed now though... http://www.deadchickens.de/05/index.htm

Lets see...what else...
Hardwax is a must if you re after records....also, if you need some, cut some dubs in the same building at http://www.dubplates-mastering.com/ , home of Basic Channel, Rhythm & Sound etc...
Some clothes from Berlin @ http://berlinerklamotten.com/
On sundays there s Bar25, where all the zombies of the weekend end up.... power gurning in action, can be quite fun as well...

The more interesting spontaneous stuff like free outdoor raves (mostly minimal techno though, this was last weekend: http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea ... 2031580836 ), foodfights ( http://www.fstop.de/fhain/oberbaum/2005/Index.html ) etc are mostly announced on short notice, so if you want, drop me a line when you re coming exactly and I ll try to keep you informed when I m in Berlin the weekend you re coming...

Don t know much of the tourist stuff though....I m just living here....

I went Berlin recently. The place is excellent, I defy not to come away trying to figure out how you're going to move there.

3 things off the top of my head:

1./ Berghain - Without question, the best venue I've ever been to in my life.

2./ Watergate - Another truly excellent venue.. very very different from Berghain. more on a london superclub type vibe.

3./ The Holocaust Memorial (not museum) - Go at night time, its like nothing else you've seen.

ekstrak, you thinkin of this?

its called the monument to the murdered jews of europe, rather than relating specifically to the holocaust of ww2.

we mooched about the east side at night afew times, really vibrant and exciting feel to it. there are afew shisha bars round there too with alot of atmosphere, but i cant remember streets or areas i'm afraid. alot of drinkin on the streets too it seemed. not that theres anything wrong with that!

Totally reccmnd this, as well as hittin spots like checkpoint charlie etc in the wee hours of the morning.

I went to a club called non-tox down some railyards or suttin & walked past the East Side gallery as the sun came up - proper inspiring.

re Tresor; is that ina new building now? I went down there in 2001 when it was in a disused bank - was sik walkin past rusted safety deposit boxes and raveing in a pitchblack room surrounded by speakers 8)

a power station, really? spose it could've been anything really. The polish lads I went with seemed to think it was an old bank tho, mind you, we were drinking vodka straight from the bottle followed by mouthfulls of polish apple juice - they were adament german apple juice was no good & had driven to berlin witha boot load of vodka & apple juice - proper funny guys.

I know there were other raves on ina old power station around the same time I was there tho, more straight techno things & I went to a Stellwerk party ina old, well, guess it was a foundry of some sort.

I fucking love Berlin....

The old one was the vaults of a big shop. The new one used to be a power station. At least I think so. New one just opened a few days ago as well iirc.

I like sunsets at Victoria Park. There is a monument at the top with a great view over Berlin. Bergmannstrasse is there too with lots of cafes, restaurants, clothes shops, record shops second hand and new stuff.

Have fun

you there for the weekend?

visit the fleamarket at mauerpark in prenzlauerberg (sundays, bare bargains!)

have a barbecue in one of the many parks (i recommend treptower park!)

get cheap food on the huge turkish market (wednesdays and fridays at maybachufer just across the river from hardwax)

hang out and take s swim at the badeschiff

visit a private party! (keep your eyes open on the streets for crowded balconys w/ loud music -- wait till someone leaves the house or try to guess where to ring the bell >> free booze!)

take the train to frankfurt/oder and go shopping for cheap cigarettes and vodka

take one of these ferrys to get away from the city (just use your metro-ticket)

:D
