Reverb making kicks sound like shite

Is there any way around this?
I like to add some 'verb on my master, but when I do the kicks sound shit when they are the only thing or one of the only things playing.
Would a workaround be to say, bounce the track without kicks or sub and then add em in after? Is there an easier way?
I don't like bouncy kicks.

Put your reverb on a send

why put it on the master channel when you could have better control on each channel using send

also either use a gate or sidechain on the verb and u can get a cool suction effect

yeah, why on earth would you put verb on your master?
also, the best way to give a kick some verb imo is to, er, not, and layer a hi-hat on top of every kick with some verb instead

or you can just add a sound over your kick like a crunch and put some verb on it. or you can take a kick with a lot of high end click, eq the lows out of it and reverb that. but throwing a verb on your master is a no no. way better off putting a verb on each individual channel.

Last track I did I had 60 tracks. Routing all of them to a send would be a serious creativity killer
I actually just assumed everyone put verb on the master lol

Quite the opposite, tweaking an individual reverb for each channel is a serious creativity killer. Most of my projects have about 50 tracks

Nah that would fuck with dynamics, muddy up sounds... all kinds of bad stuff. I'd assume you're using light reverb at like 10% wet, it can work with some type of music especially ambient, or minimal type stuff, but I wouldn't have the master wet through the whole tune. Maybe automate it during certain parts, but using sends is the way to go. Using a reverb with wet/dry options on an insert is good too especially if you want it to sound like different reverbs.
Routing 60 tracks does take time yeah, but do all 60 sounds really need reverb??

Yea, about 10-20% wet with a pretty low verb time. But yea, They may not need reverb, but I always feel that my tunes are lacking 'fullness' and reverb seems like a good way to combat it. I'll try using a send next time.
Never a mistake, always a lesson ^^

nope, and not all 60 want the same type of verb either. thats just misinformed.......... try having 2 or 3 verbs on a track each on their own AUX channel, one that's short and maybe kinda dark, one that's long, maybe brighter.... send some of the secondary elements to the short verb, helps glue your sounds... the big bright one reserved for sounds you want to give deep space to, and maybe one more plate just for your snare/percs...
should sort u out

Putting Reverb on the Master is not unheard of, but more commonly you will find engineers putting a tight reverb over there drum busses to create a virtual drum room, can help a lot when dealing with kits you've built from individual samples.

yeah similar to my template, short/med/long/spring reverbs set up on the sends.
not sure who was on about routing 60tracks to sends would be long, not sure what daw you're using but surely it should just be a case of turning one dial for each track?

If you're sending all 60 tracks to reverb you probably have quite a few more problems than you're aware of. No FX should ever be on your master. Also, low cut the reverb, and make a cut around 500 hz to remove any muddiness. Additionally - using reverb should be a creative affair, not something you apply willy-nilly
