i've recently acquired a pair of numark t200's with a mediocre mixer and amp. i've just bought a pair of mission 737r speakers that i want to use with the setup. i think these speakers should provide the treb/mid's needed for dubstep, but i wanna add a subwoofer to provide the bass.

from wat minimal music tech knowledge i have, a standard amp only has 2 channels, so u would only be able to hook up 2 speakers. how would i go about linkin a sub as well?


how would i go about linking this all up?

would i need a certain type of amp/pre-amp?

any advice is much appreciated

u like link in it in like wiv the holes n thing. dunna about sub might be a hole for that to.

If you get an active sub (built in amp) then you should be able to pass the signal through.

Go from your mixer into the sub then from the sub into the amp which feeds the speakers.

You can get a decent sub for a couple of hundred quid.

is an active sub the only way of adding a sub to the setup or could i use a standard sub?

with the setup u described, which output could i link the active sub to? seeing as theres only 2 channels to the amp. im assuming these 2 channels would already be used by the speakers.

I am assuming you will be running all your audio through your mixer.

you will need some kind of amp to run the sub whatever.

active speakers have built in amps specific for that speaker, so you will have to buy 1 active sub or 1 sub and an amp to power it.

or you could buy an amp with more channels to run everything.

in other words, if i get 2 amplifiers, one for the speakers and one for the sub.

then i should be able to connect them all via the mixer, that is if my mixer has enough inputs.

the added benefit of an active sub, apart from the matched amp DIRTY mentioned - which makes a big differance - is that 'most' active subs will allow you to hi-pass the signal going to yr stereo amp - which greatly improves the overall sound (no overlapping freqs) & improves the effciency of yr 2 main amp.

Its well worth goin active. Less config, less cableing & More sound for yr cash.

i totally agree with wat ur sayin. but im tryin to make this setup with all the equipment i already got. an active sub does sound gd...been checkin the prices out...ranging from 100 - 500. but as i already got a 2 subs, would be a waste of money.

is there anyway of connecting 2 amps together and havin sub setup like that or is an active sub the only way fwd.

I ses I see. yhman if u got 2 subs then u just need an amp & best way to doit is cop a stereo crossover, that will split the stereo out from your mixer into hi & lo. If yr gonna run both subs you got stereo-phonic BASS

you wont really, cos all thats mono neway, but just hook yr subs to another amp, like yr mains.

You dont technically 'need' a crossover, you could use some custom / Y cables our yr mixer into 2 amps but you'll have overlap between subs & mains.

by the way, which channel should i hook the sub to? theres only 2 on my amp; left and right or does it not matter whens its a sub?

all that cable does yh, is split your signal in two - with a lil dip in volume becasue of that.

so you link 2 of them out your mixer

then connect yr main amp + speakers as you would

then link the sub amp and subs - from yr post im not sure if you've got 2 seperate subs ora box with 2 drivers in -

you need two amps.

This can be the tricky part. If you get a straight power amp for yr subs, you may be able to run it in bridged mono, but you'll need another set of cables - warning: hack version - to merge your left and right into mono - this is not ideal.

best would be, if your main amp - which im assuming is a standard hi-fi amp with pre-amp and power amp in 1 box - if that has, on the back, a pre amp out and power amp in loop then hook yr Y cables in here (pre amp out) (instead of yr mixer outs), return one pair straight back to power amp in on yr main amp and one pair goes to yr next (subs) amp.

Only old, or higher end new amps will have that loop tho - my old one did.
