Anyone produce while high? I tried it, but I ended up sat downstairs with a loaf of bread. For me personally, I tend to make my darkest stuff when iv just come off the high, I somehow feel more creative, thoughts from you all?

I have produced in quite a few different states, and have found only 2 work for me...

1. Sober, and happy.
2. Sober and sad.

I have found that I can come up with some great ideas, smashed out my mind, but I can't go about implementing them. I make threads like this lost my wire, when it was right in my face, plugged in my interface. After some time past I found the thing, finished off my bottle of vodka, smoked a 8th, then I vibed out to my tune, then puked up, and passed out. When I woke up the next day, and listened back to my tune, it was shit!!!

oooo i dont drink vodka anymore, took me to places I didn't much care for. Like bed paralytic at 11pm at a house party in my own house. Its better on a comedown from being high because you can remember your idea and either implement it or be sober enough to realise it sounds like two retards trying to fuck a doorknob.

Tried it once. I had a song open in youtube at the same time, so I couldn't get any audio out of Live. I was so fucking perplexed, so I went and ate some cookies

So yeah I don't smoke at all anymore.

I still drink but neither heavily nor vodka. I get fresh but not pissed, you can still have a good time without getting utterly smashed.

lol hmmm..... production + narcotics = almost every dubstep dj/producer that is making any kind of living. Not to say you have to do drugs, but its foolish to think that the rave/dance/club scenes are not inundated with this type of behavior. On many levels they fuel the scene.

Moderation is key and responsible decisions its only natural for humans to be drawn towards the use of drugs. we are fueled by chemical enduced decision form birth so just be cause someone may/has used a narcotic doesnt mean anything about the person they are or the life they choose to live. IMHO.

intoxicated right now. can make tunes even if i can barely see my computer screen. they all sound like shit no matter what so i guess it's a win win for me.

I take benadryl as a sort of combo for allergies and anxiety, so a lot of times I'm a bit drugged when I'm working on music. I'm never so far gone that I can't write a song worth a damn though...when I'm that out of it I usually just say "fuck it" and go to bed.

IMHO , Narcotics is NOT cannabis, but morphine or oxycodone and vicodin, but between morphine (for pain) and cannabis, producing can sound great that night, then the next day, shiiiiut.

i really like some hydromorphone or hydrocodone and smoking a blunt or some sherm while im making a track, mostly because i just make the basic beats and all that first and all i have to do is be creative and close enough to on time for the quantize to work. i also really like making bass sounds while im wasted, because i make processing decisions i would never make otherwise, and even if it doesn't sound all that great in the end i always end up learning something kind of cool, or at least have a good time if i'm by myself and don't have anything else to do. drugs & fl studio is better than anything video game ever

If I try and produce stoned, what will happen is that I have an amazing idea for the most beautiful tune ever, load up FL, then spend the next 4hrs EQing a snare. Wasteman.


That being said, if I've got a test version of a tune bounced, I'll often spark up and lay the bean bag in my lounge next to my PA speakers listening back to it, with a note pad next to me to right down any changes/edits I'd like to do on the tune.

No, no it does not.

Just because lots of people making a living out of music use drugs doesn't mean it fuels the scene.

I find myself focusing on small things when high, im often on opiates though, and i dont really find it affecting my work then when im sober.

I am openly experimental with drugs. That said I can't usually work well stoned, usually better to take notes or wait till the comedown, not a fan of sitting there with cotton mouth in front of a CPU eating program while my laptop is 200 degrees and radiating, too much subtle discomfort and annoyance for me to handle high.

When having a blaze though; jeezus - cause I barely do it my mind wonders so much...

Last time I did it I was thinking about how amazing it would be if FL's GUI was a spaceships flight controls if the bigger the bass you make the faster you go; and made loads and loads of sub bass with different volume/pitch automation.




When drunk I can produce exactly the same, just the midi is a bit off the grid due to my recording is a little off...
