far from heavy dub.there's virtually no instant impact and it sounds like its been compressed heavily

What defines heavy dub to you? i'm from southern california and when i drop this track on people they get down. what defines heavy dub to me is basically dub you can dance dirty/mosh to, and so far thats been my experience for this track. And if by portamento noises, you mean the pitch slide, thats basically me trying to find a unique sound. could you let me know what it is your not feeling about the track in more detail so i can make some necessary corrections.

Thank you

Nice amount of bass. Mix sounds pretty good.

Heavy means, as I take, bass oriented. This definitely features the midrange. The lead synth is also taking impact away from the kick. For dance-step, the kick could use more punch. Mix up the drums a bit too, it's a bit repetitive, which may be useful in a set.

'dub you can dance dirty/mosh to' So brostep? This isn't quite brostep. It's got elements of the heavy UK sound and the snarky midrange Canadian/US sound. But it doesn't quite have the energy or drive to hit brostep levels. A good slower paced song for a set though.

Thanks a lot, great feedback. I'll be sure to mix up the drums, I can see how it could get repetitive. As far as the kick goes how would you go about bringing it more to the foreground? I've tried applying a sidechain compression to the mid range layer of the bass, but it sounds a bit awkward. I've also tried adding more to the kick, but there is already a lot going on in the track and that seems to boost the levels too much. And as far as the 'brostep' thing goes, thats not really what I'm going for, but also not something I'm necessarily trying to avoid. I want my tracks to hit hard, but not annoy or sound generic.

I'm with you on this. I believe the word 'dubstep' was too long to fit in the title so i went with 'dub'. Dub is excellent, Scientist would be my favorite.

I think its pretty heavy, in the intro atleast. When it drops, its far from heavy or danceable (imo) ... for the pitch up thing you got going on there, try to get more activity into the pitch bend instead of one constant upward motion, get some quick switching ups and downs. Those are my two cents.

heavy dub has fuck all to do with dubstep

The portamento thing is just a style i'm not keen on at all, nothing specifically about your track in particular that means it's bad. Artists like Bong do this quite a lot and it just sounds terrible to me, but if you like it keep doing it.
