Just moved to sheffield for uni. Looking for nights... is it really as shit as i think it is?? Or am i not looking in the right place... any guidance towards decent nights/clubs would be much appreciated, as everyone i've met so far is all about FRESHERS!!

, at which every night I've seen advertised is a big pile of crap. Looking for like-minded people and: dubstep (not filthy screechy crap)/dub/dnb/jungle/reggae/garage/free parties etc.

Wait at DQ seems to be getting some good people in these days. Thats on a friday. Photek is there tonight.
Soup Kitchen did a couple of nights last year which were sick but dunno if they are still doing anything. -

The West End has some good hip hop nights on. -

Riddimtion is a dub night which I aint been to yet but does look quite good.
The thing I find with sheff is that a lot of places do all the shite standard nights and then seem to occasionally get someone good playing but because its quite rare you miss hearing about it.
Where are you living/ what uni you at?

Central Quay, which is just bit north of city centre. At Hallam mate, leeds uni of was first choice, but missed out on an A in bio which i needed. I plan on heading leeds and manchester quite a bit, got mates there and looking to head to dmz/swamp night, possibly subdub tomorrow, I need to start getting out in sheff though and making friends or i can see myself ending up at leeds everyweek and not meeting anyone here. My mate from notts is playing at riddimtion on saturday, so might head there, doubt i can find anyone else around my halls onit.

downlo and drumroll have been putting on some really good house techno night as of late, next downlo's this saturday with levon vincent (gonna be large)
nights assosiated with off me nut records (of which there are many) is always a laugh
riddimtion is usually good.
the biggest dubstep night is subtitle, but i wouldnt recomend it (90% brostep)
the free party scene is big, but there pretty hard to scope out if your not in the loop already
dont go to corp, ever

Think you will be surprised by how many people you will find into the same sort of music in halls, took a little while but just through meeting people you tend find them eventually lol.
That dmz swamp night looks large but I am off to deep medi takeover in manc on oct 14 so might skip it. Subdub would have been good but the loans not in till sun

My ex used to go to the school disco nights every Wednesday, when I was in town I'd go along too. It was grim

she was throwing up on the steps up the to top floor and a bouncer asked her to leave. i blagged that she needed some air so took her to the smoking area, and she threw up some guy. fuck knows how we didn't get beaten up.
if you liked corp, you'll love jesters in Southampton!

i think corp has to be one of the only clubs that generates its own mud. never ever wear decent shoes there. they do have some decent junglist alliance affiliated nights though sometimes
i lived in sheffield until a year ago and it fucked me off tbh. there were very few decent nights and even when ones got a good DJ they'd usually played to the student crowd and be far worse than if you saw them elsewhere. things were starting to pick up a bit to be fair so i don't know how it is these days

yeah it isn't bad overall but would say leeds and and definitely manc are better. However Sheff is a nicer place to live than those so swings and roundabouts.

Tuesday Club is most definitely your first port of call, but then there's various different club nights at DQ on the Friday - Suckerpunch, Wait (had Pinch, Oris Jay, Grievous Angel et al) and Club Pony (more housey).
Others such as No Uniform, which is held every third Saturday of the month is wicked - my mate is the promoter and he does a sterling job. He's had Dark Sky, Koreless, Jakwob (in Jan '10), Greenmoney, Fantastic Mr Fox and others.
Soup Kitchen and Bunga Bunga too - these are less frequent and normally held in a warehouse of some sort. They have had acts such as Mele, Julio Bashmore, Joy O, Pariah, Midland and Lil Silva.
There is a decent scene in Sheffield, you just need to dig a bit.
