I love the original of this song, and this is really freaking cool. I would've never thought to gate it and use it as a background pad, that's really fucking original.
Honestly, the drums need to be doing something with this track, ya know? The bass you're using sounds like it's supposed to be electro-house or something, so give it a little bit of energy! Maybe a kick-hat-snare-hat-kick instead of a regular 3/4 beat.
Idk, just my opinion. This would've made a cool dance track.
