changing sound of 'future garage'...what are people thinking

Ez, i know its not strictly dubstep but its a spin off from it so hope its cool here

anyway so ive been meaning to post this for a while now, havent got round to it, but here goes. So basically ive been pioneering the future garage sound along with a good mate in derby for a while now, i took a brief spell away to get into production myself, but realised i still better put the time in to keeping myself in the know in the underground world, cuz after all im still playing out. So i started downloading mixes again and ive noticed a massive decline in the amount of that ' lovely synthy, flowing style of future garage, (example....joy orbison - hype mngo, lando kal - further, jacques greene etc etc etc) and its being replaced with the more abrupt boddika, breach - fatherless, joy o - sicko cell. alot less synths and im my opinion anyway just not as nice to listen too.

It kills me because no one in my city has ever heard of the stuff i play out and with house on the menu all night at gigs i play at people seem to hype up a little with those different drum patterns and warm synths. I know the latter music style is forward thinking but whats everyone thinking?? Have you noticed this or is it just me?

Safe

Personally I like the sparser tracks more and I have been including more and more of them into my sets recently.

Well, the latter tracks that you just listed as not liking aren't even "Future Garage".

Nope. But I think it's a great sound! I love the older more dubstep sound as well, but we still have that on wax. Glad the sound is still being pushed fwd. Hate it when the sound stagnates for too long if that makes any sense?

maybe its because they wanna get as far away from the stupid name of future garage? if you want future garage dont listen to joy o, breach and boddika et al cos they are doing more house/techno/electro sounds. go over to futuregarageforum if you want more of it.

As long as it's good music, who really cares? People are still making some cheesy things at 125-138, just look a bit harder.

Sorry, didn't mean to sound rude, but I'm gonna be honest, I'm really not sure what you're getting at. *Maybe* with the Joy Orbison(insofar as he blew up with a track at 140 and moved on to different tempos?), but Breach and Boddika have never really gone near the style that you were listing with the former tracks, imo.

I guess it would be different with every producer, to this day, the only Joy Orbison song I've heard at the 140 tempo is "Hyph Mngo", past that, it seems like the guy isn't really so much a producer at that tempo as someone who goes for different moods. With Breach and Boddika, I've never seen either of them in the 140 range at all, just doing their own things. Both of them are well known under different names for doing different styles than dubstep, as well(Boddika=half of Instra:Mental, Breach as Ben Westbeech).

I think it's just that the 140 tempo became so popular, that it opened the doors to producers with different styles and tempos getting popular with their own material, and not having to conform to the accepted tempo of dubstep(and, by extension, Future Garage). With that said, I think a lot of listeners(myself included), became so inundated with stuff at 140 tempo that the listener base started to go to other styles/tempos, as well. You see Breach doing a lot with the funky sound(I guess you'd call it Funky, I dunno), and Boddika bringing an almost electro-throwback vibe.

From my own standpoint, after staying immersed in dubstep for so long, it made me go back and re-examine a lot of music I listened to/loved before I ever got into dubstep, and I honestly think it showed in my final radio shows, but that's just me.

edit: I do think there's still a lot of folks kinda going the route of the original veins of Future Garage, just a matter of where to check for it. Whistla(who, as far as I know, coined the term Future Garage), he runs the label L2S, which is definitely still on that vibe.
