an idea to keep vinyl alive! budgestep.

I was just sitting at my computer smoking breakfast, and I came up with an idea that may have been thought of many times before, although I haven't seen it in practice....
basically i was pondering how much dubs are costing in shops, sometimes up to £7.99, and how im going to have to start moving to digital at some point whether i like it or not.
so i thought, can producers not get together and bring out a budget label? no artwork etc, just the artists name and track name maybe on the plate. the more artists involved and dubs are sold costs will drop further. Maybe they could be sold directly through ebay too? 12"s for a fiver?
What do people think?

I don't really think vinyl sales are a major issue. I don't know any1 that would rather have an mp3 file over a plate of a good tune. I think in this scene alot of the time there is a huge demand for tunes to be released on vinyl way befor they are(or are not) released. And paying up to 7.99 for a tune has never really bothered me, I have never taken that into consideration as a matter of fact.

ironic thing is that white label tps, are sold without card sleeve or artwork, but are usually more expensive than the full release..

Regardless of technology and falling record sales, vinyl still getting pressed in the future is a must

They are more expensive because they arent being pressed in quantity.

that makes sense, but for some reason i was under the impression that when you get a run of vinyl pressed you get somethin like 10 test presses anyways..

Vinyl will never die.
I have started buying vinyl again after a loooong break from DJing. I have forgotten the joy I feel from having a new plate arrive at the door (in particular, the weight of a record)
what is a little sad is the fact that record shops are closing due to internet sales.

if clubs stopped installing cdj's vinyl sales would skyrocket.
vinyl will never totally die off, but its demise has already begun, some heads will stay vinyl till they just plain ass stop cutting to it. but its price etc is fixed and has been for time now.
Only way to make cutting and pressing to vinyl cheeper is to get more people buying it, but lets be honest its only dj's that purchase vinyl (most of the time) so without a huge dj boom of fresh faced kids coming along, that aint gonna happen either, and most kids that do start djing, play cd's anyway!!!!!

dont always need that many test presses usually get three then pay for more if you need to

ive only just started buying vinyl recently as ive only just got into djing. to be honest im still pretty shit at mixing but ill still keep buying several records a week as i love supporting the scene and even if i never actually play at a night i still really enjoy playing to myself in my bedroom.
not planning on stopping buying vinyl any time soon, im well and truly addicted

its called pressing issues...jokes.
label was started by forum for forum.
but i personally do not understand what the high cost of vinyl is.
other than it prob costs alot more now than 17 dollar cds , to make at least. viva ameoba, used section. just nabbed 6blocc,djunya,s.n.o.,dubchilds newest,angermanagement1, etc.all used.
just gotta wait acouple months for tunes to get pleyed, then nab in the miles of used shite.

printing simple labels isn't gonna keep the costs down - the cheapest ones you can get are 1 colour (i.e. black on white), and lots of labels do that anyway. The biggest costs are the mastering, processing and manufacture - there's no way to cut these out unfortunately.
and yea, TPs are normally more expensive cos they're extremely limited and way upfront so it's possible to charge more for them.

vinyl fo evah...a file on my hard drive just gets lost and sounds shit---but yea labor intensive the process vs. a download and a burn...check out this video of the process from Dubplates Mastering in Berlin (hardwax/basic channel, etc! legends!).

For rill? You get em on ebay or some shit? People hang on to the vinyl they buy around my neck of the woods. Not that they buy dubstep anyway.
