PS3 or Xbox 360

Yep. It's this fucking thread again. But I'm getting me some moneys soon and I want a console again. I'll be going second hand either way so PS3 is kinda making me lean towards that option simply down to reliability. Then again, the PS3 controller sucks ass compared to the Xbox which is frankly a huge factor for me. The only upcoming titles I actually care/know about are Skyrim and Battlefield which are on both so if there are any exclusive titles for either console that I should want to check out, feel free to post them in here.

For online gaming 360 communities are better but PS3 will probably far out live the 360 because of the mod and hackers. But gaming wise, there is little difference so it's personal preference.

I'd go for the 360, reasons...
-PS3 control sucks ass, who thought making the thumb sticks so your thumbs slip off them was a good idea. playing fifa is a right mission
-the online is waste, maybe free but but fuckin waste
-when PS3's brake the customer service is wank, they charged my mate £80 to fix his because he had no receipt or something. xbox fixed mine twice for free customer service was brilliant and it was returned to me in a week both times
-there are no exclusive games worth paying the extra cost of the ps3

Aye but it's probably not even gona be much of an extra cost considering i'm going second hand. You can pick both up around the same price on gumtree. One PS3 exclusive I am interested in is Heavy Rain.

Visually, it's amazing, but the playability is wank and just a bunch of quicktime videos IMHO.

I played the demo. It is basically an interactive movie but it seemed immersive as fuck.

Probably why I don't play it, I'm into arcade'y games over puzzle solving type games.

Can't really go wrong with either of em. I've got PS3 just because I had PS2 before it (and still have!)

i've got both and really dig both of them, so i don't think you can make a wrong choice. but in the interest of giving the ps3 a little love in this thread, i will say that there are a bunch of great exclusives on the ps3 that i'm really glad i have access to. the uncharted series, littlebigplanet 1 and 2, god of war 3, ratchet & clank series, resistance & killzone series, infamous 1 and 2, all that sorta shit. i actually like the ps3 controller a lot, though, to be honest, and i end up playing most multiplatform titles on ps3 now partly because of it.
haven't played heavy rain although i do hear excellent things about it if you're willing to overlook the gameplay being pretty dry.

Don't forget MGS4 and soon to be released is the MGS Collection which will include all previous MGS games.

PS3 control pads are exactly the same as PS2 apart from their strength. I've broken a few but I go in pretty hard on UFC. IMO, they're the best controllers ever apart from the large deadzone and low durability. You do know Microsoft copied the PS2 pad layout for their controller yea? Almost the same controller anyway really. God knows how you have trouble keeping your thumbs on them too, that's funny

In what way is it 'waste'? Seriously? It lets you play games with your friends pretty much flawlessly, what else does it need?!
Paying Microsoft for the 'privilege' of playing online on a console you OWN is ridiculous.
I think the higher perceived value of 360 online VS. PS3 online is in the same vein as iPhone being 'better' than HTC or Samsung because of the extra 'perceived value' in the price. Paying for a name. Ridiculous.

£80 for not having a receipt is fair enough. This isn't the dream world in which you can trust everybody.

Microsoft fixed your console twice for free not because they're a nice company, but because they want to keep their share of the marketplace. If they didn't fix your console (and every other person's) for free then there would be a fucking 360-related riot. The amount of money spent on 360's, most of which break, is absurd. The fact that anyone can recommend a console which is actually
EXPECTED to break is ridiculous in my eyes.
The way Microsoft has turned a VERY BAD hardware design in to a "isn't Microsoft a nice company? They fixed my console for free!" situation says more about their marketing skills than the quality of their products. The fact that people stand for this amazes me. Imagine if you EXPECTED your Pioneer CDJs to break. Nobody would buy them, and rightly so.

it's worth it just for Metal Gear Solid 4 actually
IMO get PS3, its not going to break and the games are pretty much the same. If you don't play online loads (like me) then it makes sense too. Either way, you're going to be supporting a nasty company. I just prefer the PS3's pad and the fact it doesn't break

Pick whichever one has more games you want to play. That was the 360 for me. Everything else is secondary.

Comes down to online play, rereading your op. If you like to play online, or haven't yet felt the touch of heroin that is online play, 360. If you like to fuck around for a couple of hours a month, ps3.
also, that reliability thing second hand... yeah that could be big. I've been through 3 xboxes. It totally sucks, and is absolutely for real. Still for me, it is totally worth it. I get bored as fuck playing "video games" but playing on line with your group of homies is makes it worth it.
