We all agree that dubstep has it's "modern sound" if you want to put it that way, and we all know a lot of you hate it. I for one have nothing against the oldschool or newer side. It's getting annoying seeing as how a lot of people rip on the modern sound. Personally, I think they should separate the two genres with different names.. Who has the power of naming genres anyways? I'm guessing the artists.

The whole point of the thread though is that, can we agree that the modern sound isn't BAD? A lot of people like to say fucked up shit about it, but I think only because it was once a different sound. There is nothing wrong with it, it sounds good too.

Also on a side note, is it just me or does anybody else feel that Mr.Big Boy "S" didn't really get to where he is on his own? I mean for christ sakes hes the fucking hugest trend hopper ever (also being famous for all of them), and who knows what he will fuck up next.

Your post is a bit jumbled, but I think I understand what you are are saying......and I disagree. The great thing about dubstep is that it offers lots of creativity to the artist to decide what he/she thinks dubstep is. Some make atmospheric tracks, some make dark tracks, some make some bass heavy wobbles, and some like to use mid range......but at the end of the day it is all dubstep. Some of the 'old guard' on here can't stand to hear the sound change a bit, but if music does not evolve then it will just get stale. I can't really fault them too much, a lot of these people produce and/or DJ dubstep so they are emotionally involved and don't want to see what they know and love to be bastardized and sold to the mainstream(like what has been done with the one you call 'S'). I like seeing producers like Skream, Liquid Stranger, and to a lesser extent Coki explore all ends of dubstep and keep it fresh, I personally don't want to listen to the same style all the time.

I guess to sum it up, it is all dubstep even if you think it isn't (expect for 'S')

I listen to a youngsta set, full of brand new tunes and they are very modern sounding to me. Really it all comes down to quality, no matter when it was made.

I agree with you, I just wish a lot of people felt that way too so the tension can stop. YOu make a really good point on evolving music also, if it stayed the same always, not even dubstep would be here. We'd still be banging on rocks with sticks and shit like the cavemen did (at least I'm guessing lol)! Maybe one day dubstep will take on sub-genres you think? Like metal to black metal, heavy metal, thrash metal, you get the point. Besides brostep, I don't know why but that term kind of bugs me!

and that's exactly what I do. I'm just annoyed of comments being flooded with what is real dubstep and what is not, instead of concentrating on the song, that is all. I'm speaking for a lot of us

For me its not the ''modern'' dubstep that gets me...its the scene thats followed, and i think why people on here get so worked up about it is, The ''old school'' heads listen to dubstep because they love it, Where people that are more into the ''filthy'' stuff are only listening because its whats in and ''cool '' at the moment, I seriously do reakon this will all die down in a few years, or its just gonna get crazy out of control and all the kids are gonna be jumping around to weird skretching noises with no kicks or anything....oh wait..?

How is one the old sound and the other the new sound when neither sound like og dubstep? Idc what people listen to, but I'm sick of people acting like 1) these are the only two sounds and 2) that either of these sounds is what dubstep sounded like at it's genesis. Crazy wobbly dubstep has been around for just as long as deep meditative dubstep, it's just real popular with students and kids these days is all.

I joined in 08, just changed usernames recently

Also if you took that as me being one of the 'old guard' types... I happily produce aggressive 140bpm industrial/dnb/breakcore influence music... and most people would call it brostep... so I embrace the word. Dont take it as an insult it wont be an insult. Bit like all the interpretations of successful androgynous person.

I assure you, I and alot of other brostep producers, like what I make, know my history, have been here since before dubstep was the powerhouse it is and arent going anywhere once it fades away.

Sorry, I saw a random comma in the middle of the title and I hate to put on my obsessive grammar pants. I agree with the majority of what you said, but I fear you're giving brostep producers a little too much credit, probably because you're making a generalisation based on your own experience. Most of them do not know their history, at all. A majority have not been there since Dubstep was a powerhouse, at all. I think they'll move onto the next phase if it does fade away. Hopefully it doesn't, as I like that bro stuff.
